Germany v Serbia Prediction: 6/5 Burkardt can break his duck

Jurgen Klopp was a popular choice as Germany's head coach, but he has a few issues to address after last Sunday's surprise 1-0 home loss to Greece.

Klopp wanted to look at lots of players, but his decision to split the squad into two groups for these Nations League fixtures does not seem to be paying off.

A refresh has taken place with 17 new players called up for the home match against Serbia and the trip to Greece, including the uncapped Noah Atubolu, Finn Dahmen, Jonas Urbig, Finn Jeltsch, Mika Baur, Said El Mala, Vitaly Janelt, Felix Keidel and Derry Scherhant.

But there will be intense pressure to perform as Germany aim to move on from their slow start.

While Germany hope to feel the benefits of a refresh, Serbia must work with the same group of players responsible for back-to-back 2-1 home losses to Greece and the Netherlands.

Serbia had a solid top-tier Nations League campaign in 2024, losing two of six league games, but they have struggled in more recent times.

They finished third in World Cup qualifying Group K, 11 points below sectional winners England, and have continued to struggle despite a change of head coach, with Veljko Paunovic replacing Dragan Stojkovic.

Germany v Serbia Prediction

Best Bet: Germany win to nil @ 6/5

Germany can quieten some of the dissenting voices by defeating Serbia in Bavaria.

Despite the slow start, Die Mannschaft still have time to put together a strong Nations League campaign.

And it is worth remembering that Germany suffered a shock 2-0 loss away to Slovakia at the start of 2026 World Cup qualifying before storming back to win the section with five straight wins.

Klopp wants to put his own stamp on the team, but he is also experienced enough to know that he needs to deliver an upturn in results.

And, despite the departure of several key players, including captain Joshua Kimmich, there is enough talent in the group to see off an out-of-sorts Serbia side.

Serbia would have hoped to have made an impact in back-to-back home games, but they failed to secure any points and are left with four extremely tough fixtures on the schedule.

After conceding 25 shots in Sunday's 2-1 loss at home to the Netherlands, it would make sense for Serbia's head coach Veljko Paunovic to focus on tightening up at the back.

Serbia will probably defend with greater discipline, but they may struggle to avoid a low-scoring loss.

Alternative Bet: Florian Wirtz anytime assist @ 13/8

If Serbia deploy a low defensive block, Germany will need to find moments of creative inspiration.

And their best avenue for a killer pass could be Liverpool's Florian Wirtz, who looks more at ease playing for his country than his club.

Wirtz contributed three assists at the 2026 World Cup, and he can deliver a creative moment against the Serbs.

Germany v Serbia Prediction Bet Builder Tip

  • Jonathan Burkardt to score any time

  • Sasa Lukic to be carded

  • Under 4 goals

    Pays 15/1

Several Germany players will be keen to seize their opportunity, including Eintracht Frankfurt centre-forward Jonathan Burkardt, who has failed to score in six internationals.

Burkardt has made a strong start to the domestic league and cup campaign, scoring six goals in five appearances, and can help to seal a comfortable but low-scoring success over Serbia.

League A status looks a tough gig for Serbia, who are struggling to compete.

The visitors will spend plenty of time without the ball, and a lot of their midfield donkey work could be done by Ipswich midfielder Sasa Lukic, who regularly plays on the edge with regard to his tackling.
