Five signings Matthias Jaissle could make at Newcastle before the end of the transfer window

Newcastle United have appointed Matthias Jaissle as successor to Eddie Howe at St James' Park and the 38-year-old former Al-Ahli and RB Salzburg boss will want to try and strengthen his squad as soon as possible.

German Jaissle said it was an "incredible honour" to become head coach of "one of the biggest clubs in European football".

As Newcastle fans ponder their new boss, we have taken a look at five potential players who could be transfer targets for the Geordies with less than a month of the summer transfer window remaining.

If Arsenal complete the expected £75m capture of Bruno Guimaraes from the Magpies, the Tyneside club will have made more than £240m from player sales this summer and the Toon Army will expect plenty of that to be reinvested.

Angelo Stiller - Stuttgart

Stuttgart midfielder Angelo Stiller has been touted as a possible Newcastle target as the inevitable exit of Guimaraes moves closer.

Sport BILD journalist Felix Arnold has played down talk of interest from the Magpies, adding that the Bundesliga side see Stiller as central to their plans for this season.

Stiller played 51 games across all competitions in a defensive midfield role last season, contributing two goals and seven assists.

It appears as though no approach has been made just yet, but with plenty of funds coming into the club, Newcastle may soon seek to test Stuttgart's resolve.

Luka Sucic - Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad could come under pressure to retain the services of midfielder Luka Sucic before the window closes.

The 23-year-old scored three goals and made one assist in 22 La Liga appearances last season, impressing with his distribution and competence on the ball.

Perhaps tellingly, the Croatia international worked with Jaissle previously at Salzburg and so might be tempted to link up with his old boss again in England.

He is not yet the finished product, however, and so Newcastle may have to be careful in placing too much emphasis on Sucic as a replacement for the likes of Guimares and Sandro Tonali, the latter having left for Tottenham.

Anis Hadj Moussa - Feyenoord

Feyenoord winger Anis Hadj Moussa is a possible Newcastle target following their recent managerial appointment.

Anthony Gordon left for Barcelona this summer and so a quality winger is a position the Magpies will want to fill.

The 24-year-old was rumoured to be a target of Jaissle before he left Al-Ahli, ensuring he's now rumoured to be on Newcastle's radar too.

Indeed, some outlets have reported that the Magpies have agreed personal terms in principle with Hadj Moussa, with a deal that could cost as much as £35m on the table.

Sporting director Ross Wilson has quashed any suggestion that a deal is already done, but that could change soon.

Antonio Nusa - RB Leipzig

The RB Leipzig link means that 21-year-old Norwegian attacker Antonio Nusa is also set to be linked to Newcastle.

Nusa's style of play ties in neatly with the Jaissle model of high intensity pressing and he is adept on either wing or through the middle.

He might still be one for the future, but he's fresh off excelling for Norway at the World Cup finals this summer, including scoring against Ivory Coast.

Felix Nmecha - Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund's Felix Nmecha could be a like-for-like replacement for Guimaraes, but a club-record fee might be required to prize him away from the German giants.

At Dortmund, he played 47 matches, scored six goals and provided three assists last season, while he was one of Germany's better performers at another disappointing World Cup for Die Mannschaft.

Any potential suitors will have to dig deep as Ole Book, the sporting director of the German club, has stated: "I would consider a transfer extremely unlikely. Of course, astronomical sums can always be involved."
