Everton v Coventry City Prediction: 10/3 Thomas poses threat in tight tussle

Everton bounced back from their 2-0 Premier League defeats to Chelsea and Arsenal by beating Newcastle 1-0 in a game of few chances on Monday night.

The Toffees are aiming to follow up their St James' Park success with a home victory over promoted Coventry City on Friday.

The Sky Blues lost their first four league matches without scoring a goal, but have found their feet in the top flight, winning three of their last five games.

Everton are favourites to take three points at the Hill Dickinson Stadium but Coventry boss Frank Lampard will be eager to frustrate his former club.

Everton v Coventry City Prediction

Best Bet - One or both teams not to score @ 21/20

Lampard has a point to prove against Everton, having been sacked by the Toffees in January 2023 after less than a year in the job.

Lampard led Coventry to the Championship title in impressive style last season and his side's form has picked up after a tough start on their return to the Premier League.

The Sky Blues delighted their supporters with convincing home wins over Newcastle (4-1) and Sunderland (3-1).

Their first top-flight victory in 25 years was September's 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the City Ground and they could produce a similarly disciplined display at Everton.

Backing one or both teams not to score looks a good bet at odds-against.

Coventry failed to find the net in five of their six league defeats, including 1-0 losses to Hull, Manchester City and Fulham.

Jack Rudoni scored with their only shot on target in last month's 3-1 loss at Tottenham but Everton's forwards are also hard to trust.

The Toffees average just one goal per game in the league this term, although they showcased their defensive strength in the 1-0 win at Newcastle.

Monday's matchwinner Thierno Barry has scored only four league goals from 30 shots this term and David Moyes needs his attacking players to sharpen up their finishing.

Both teams have scored in only one of Everton's last six league matches and another cagey contest is expected on Friday.

Alternative Bet - Bobby Thomas to have one or more shots on target @ 10/3

Coventry are optimistic that centre-back Bobby Thomas will shake off a minor calf problem to start at Everton and he is an important figure at both ends of the pitch.

Thomas averages 1.8 attempts at goal per 90 minutes in the Premier League – a stat that compares favourably with Coventry's top scorer Rudoni (1.6) and striker Taiwo Awoniyi (1.4).

The defender had five efforts in September's defeat at Manchester City and three against in-form Brighton, so he looks worth backing at a big price to have a shot on target on Merseyside.

Everton v Coventry City Bet Builder Tip

  • Coventry City or draw double chance

  • Thierno Barry 3+ shots

  • James Tarkowski to be booked

Pays 37/4

Everton have dropped points in six of their first nine Premier League matches, scoring only nine goals, so Coventry City or draw double chance is an attractive Bet Builder selection.

Only Erling Haaland has had more Premier League shots this season than Everton's French striker Barry, who scored the sole goal at Newcastle on Monday.

Toffees centre-back James Tarkowski has been booked in three of his last four league and cup starts and could face an awkward 90 minutes against Coventry centre-forward Taiwo Awoniyi.
