As the only team to win their opening four Bundesliga games, Borussia Dortmund went into the international break top of the table and they will expect to remain there after Friday’s clash with Werder Bremen.
BVB failed to get near runaway champions Bayern Munich last term but the early signs are that they could be in for a closer pursuit this time around.
Werder have started well enough, winning two and losing only one of their four games, but a trip to Signal Iduna Park is never easy and the Yellow Wall look set to celebrate another victory.
Best Bet - Borussia Dortmund to win to nil @ 6/4
Alternative Bet - Serhou Guirassy to score @ 8/13
Bet Builder - Borussia Dortmund to win, Felix Nmecha 1+ shots on target & Niclas Fullkrug 2+ fouls @ 9/2
Best Bet: Borussia Dortmund to win to nil @ 6/4
Pessimistic Dortmund fans will say the extended international break will disrupt their momentum but even if it has halted their progress somewhat, they still look a level above mid-table Werder.
Niko Kovac’s side have not only won games, they have been dominant. Only Hoffenheim have scored against BVB in the Bundesliga and another clean sheet could be coming their way on Friday.
Bremen do carry a threat but they tend to save their best for home soil, with a 4-1 hammering at Freiburg and 1-1 draw with Cologne in their opening two away games suggesting they will not trouble their tough-to-break-down hosts too much in Dortmund.
Alternative Bet: Serhou Guirassy to score @ 8/13
Dortmund’s defence has been the key to their success but they still need someone to fire in the goals, so it is handy they have a Guinean goal machine leading the line.
Serhou Guirassy scored a respectable 22 goals in 37 starts last term and he looks set to eclipse that tally this time around, having started the new campaign with four strikes in five appearances.
The BVB star was on target in Guinea’s win over Kenya on the first of this month and although he is a short price, he is still worth backing given his immense form.
Borussia Dortmund to win
Felix Nmecha 1+ shots on target
Niclas Fullkrug 2+ fouls
Pays 9/2
With Bremen’s last Bundesliga away win having come in March and their last victory over Dortmund back in 2022, a seventh straight success for the hosts is the obvious starting point for a bet builder.
A number of Dortmund stars have upped their game this term but perhaps none more so than Felix Nmecha. The midfielder has already matched last season’s Bundesliga goals tally of two and also found the net for Germany during the international break, following up a strike at his debut World Cup.
Nmecha is playing with real confidence and having averaged a shot on target every 78 minutes in this season’s Bundesliga, he is a nice price to test Bremen goalkeeper Karl Hein on Friday.
Dortmund’s dominance is set to lead to a frustrating night for Werder forward Niclas Fullkrug, who is not one to keep his irritation hidden. The former BVB man has committed 10 fouls in four appearances for Bremen and may add a couple more to his tally at his former home ground.
