Arsenal Women v Manchester United Women Prediction: 4/1 Russo to punish former club

Arsenal Women host Manchester United Women at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday and both teams are aiming to kickstart their Women's Super League campaigns.

Arsenal were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Crystal Palace in their first home fixture of the new season while United are struggling under new manager Eva Olid.

They lost 2-1 away to London City Lionesses on the opening weekend before suffering a 5-0 home defeat to Chelsea.

Arsenal Women v Manchester United Women Prediction

Best Bet: Arsenal Women to win & under 2.5 goals @ 11/4

Manchester United Women kicked off their WSL season with two defeats to London clubs and that trend is likely to continue against Arsenal Women.

United lost 1-0 to Newcastle and 2-1 to Liverpool in August's friendly fixtures and they are propping up the WSL table after two rounds of fixtures.

They were beaten 2-1 by big-spending London City Lionesses in their first competitive match since Spanish coach Eva Olid replaced Marc Skinner.

That was hardly a disastrous result but last weekend's 5-0 home defeat to Chelsea was a shocker and United's lack of attacking threat is a major concern.

They had four attempts at goal against the Lionesses and just two against Chelsea so Arsenal should be backed to win a game featuring under 2.5 goals.

The Gunners made a winning start to 2026/27, beating Brighton 1-0 thanks to an early goal from summer signing Lisa Baum.

They dominated their second game, at home to Crystal Palace, but had to settle for a 0-0 draw despite firing 30 shots.

Playmaker Mariona Caldentey and right-back Emily Fox both hit the woodwork in that stalemate and Arsenal have the attacking depth to grind out a victory over United.

Stina Blackstenius, who scored the winner in the 2024/25 UEFA Champions League final against Barcelona, and Olivia Smith were among their substitutes against Palace while United's forward line looks far weaker.

Alternative Bet: Alessia Russo first goalscorer @ 4/1

Arsenal striker Alessia Russo is a good bet to open the scoring against her former club.

Russo struck eight times in her last seven WSL appearances in 2025/26, including a first-half hat-trick against Tottenham in March.

She is yet to open her account this term but had seven shots – three of them on target – in the draw with Crystal Palace.

Georgia Stanway and Chloe Kelly are among the creative talents teeing up their England teammate and Russo can punish a United defence who conceded five goals against Chelsea last time out.

Arsenal Women v Manchester United Women Bet Builder Tip

  • Arsenal Women to win first half

  • Under 3.5 goals

  • Julia Zigiotti Olme to be booked

    Pays 15/1

Back Arsenal Women to win the first half. Manchester United Women fell behind in the ninth minute against London City Lionesses and were 2-0 down at half-time against Chelsea last weekend.

Arsenal's forwards have not been at their best this season, scoring only once in two WSL games, and under 3.5 goals was a winning bet in six of United's last seven competitive fixtures.

United midfielder Julia Zigiotti Olme was booked six times in 25 starts last season and had a disappointing outing against London City. The Sweden international scored an own goal and picked up a yellow card in the first 30 minutes of the game.
