FC Barcelona v Aston Villa predicted lineups and team news

Aston Villa make the trip to face Spanish giants FC Barcelona in a glamour UEFA Champions League tie tonight.

The Villans have been almost perfect in the UEFA Champions League to this point, sitting second in the overall table after three wins from three to get their campaign underway.

Unai Emery's side have had an inconsistent season domestically to this point, winning, drawing and losing three of their nine matches in the Premier League to date, but haven't lost a league match since matchday four.

Meanwhile, the Catalan side are eighth in the UEFA Champions League standings, having dropped their first European points of the campaign away against defending back-to-back champions PSG last time out.

Hansi Flick's side currently top La Liga on 30 points, two ahead of rivals Real Madrid, responding to their 2-1 home El Clasico defeat with a 6-1 home demolition of Alaves at the weekend.

The Spanish outfit are nursing as many as six injury issues ahead of the match against the Villans, with Andreas Christensen, Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Xavi Espart, Dani Olmo and Roony Bardghji all unavailable.

As a result, Frenkie De Jong is set to continue as a make-shift centre back partner for Pau Cubarsi, with Joao Cancelo and Gerard Martin the full backs.

Rodri and Pedri should continue in midfield, with Fermin Lopez starting alongside Lamine Yamal and Anthony Gordon in Olmo's absence, behind Raphinha.

The Villans have no new issues ahead of their trip to Spain, with only long-term absentees Matteo Ruggeri, Amadou Onana and Aaron Wan-Bissaka unavailable, alongside the unregistered Brian Madjo.

The only changes expected from the disappointing 1-1 draw with Fulham on Saturday night are likely to be the return of Joao Gomes to the starting XI - in place of Leon Goretzka - and Ibrahim Mbaye to replace Alysson on the left of the attack, allowing Johan Manzambi to return to the centre and John McGinn to take his place back on the right hand side.

Predicted Barcelona lineup

(4-2-3-1): Joan Garcia; Joao Cancelo, Pau Cubarsi, Frenkie De Jong, Gerard Martin; Rodri, Pedri; Lamine Yamal, Fermin Lopez, Anthony Gordon; Raphinha.

Predicted Aston Villa lineup

(4-2-3-1): Zion Suzuki; Ian Maatsen, Pau Torres, Victor Lindelof, Matty Cash; Joao Gomes, Boubacar Kamara; Ibrahim Mbaye, Johan Manzambi, John McGinn; Nicolas Jackson.
