Starting his professional boxing career with a TKO victory over Mexico’s Felipe Romero, eight of Usyk’s first nine fights were hosted in Ukraine.

It wasn’t until 2018 that the Ukrainian faced British opposition, standing in the form of Liverpool-born Tony Bellew.

Manchester Arena would host the undisputed cruiserweight title clash, with Usyk recording an emphatic eighth-round KO to silence Bellew’s faithful supporters, asserting his dominance on British soil.

Formally relinquishing his cruiserweight straps in favour of a step up to the heavyweight division, victory over Chazz Witherspoon would be followed by a WBO Inter-Continental clash against former world title challenger Derek Chisora.

Facing the biggest test of his seven-year boxing career, Usyk recorded a unanimous decision victory for just the fourth time, before famously calling out fan favourite Anthony Joshua.

While the callout was met with mixed responses from the British crowd, Usyk got his wish, rewarded with a shot at Joshua.

The Ukrainian got his chance, and took it with conviction. A dominant unanimous decision victory over Joshua saw Usyk win the WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO heavyweight tiles, in just his third fight in the division.

Joshua was granted an opportunity to avenge his loss, though the rematch would be held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Despite displaying more intent and aggression in the second clash, Joshua was handed defeat once more, this time via split decision.

Usyk’s slaying of the British heavyweight division wasn’t about to stop there, however, with Daniel Dubois next on the agenda.

While Usyk emerged victorious through a ninth round knockout, victory wasn’t without controversy, with Dubois’ controversial low blow flooring the heavyweight for over three minutes.

Usyk’s ability to recover and brutally bring the fight to an end was typical of his formidability, however, and a clash with Tyson Fury, viewed by many as the pinnacle of men’s British boxing, awaited.

An undisputed bout with two unbeaten records on the line, Usyk came out on top with an ordinarily clinical performance.

Just over seven months later, Fury was given a shot to requite his loss, proving unsuccessful and succumbing to a second defeat in his professional boxing career.

While Usyk arguably had nothing left to prove, he further cemented his prestigious legacy with a second victory over Dubois on Saturday 19th July, defeating British opposition for the seventh consecutive fight.
