After a dramatic and controversial few weeks, England will be going all out to beat New Zealand in this week's Test series decider at Trent Bridge.
The hosts secured a 115-run victory in the opening Test on a Lord's pitch that was deemed "unsatisfactory" as 40 wickets fell in the space of just 996 balls, making it the shortest completed Test at the prestigious venue in almost 140 years.
England's joy was short-lived as the aftermath of their win was centred around the future of captain Ben Stokes after he and Gus Atkinson were omitted from the squad pending an investigation.
Joe Root was given the armband for the first time since his decision to step down as Test captain in April 2022 and he was unable to prevent New Zealand levelling the series as they dominated proceedings at the Oval.
Stokes and Atkinson have since been reinstated and will feature in Nottingham after being cleared by the Cricket Regulator of any wrongdoing.
The hosts have made four changes from the second Test, with wicketkeeper Jamie Smith returning from paternity leave and spinner Shoaib Bashir reclaiming his place in the side.
England will more than likely be relieved to be focusing on matters on the pitch and are narrow favourites to come out on top in this eagerly anticipated series decider.
