England v Argentina predicted XIs and team news

England and Argentina collide in a blockbuster World Cup semi-final in Atlanta on Wednesday.

Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions progressed to the final four of the competition for only the fourth time in the nation's history after they came from behind to defeat Norway 2-1 in Miami.

Andreas Schjelderup had put the Norwegians ahead with a speculative strike in the first half, but England restored parity moments before the half-time interval courtesy of a sublime Jude Bellingham goal and the Real Madrid superstar turned the game on its head in extra time as he capitalised on an Orjan Nyland error to send his country through.

Argentina also went beyond the 90 minutes in their quarter-final clash against Switzerland, despite playing against 10 men for more than 20 minutes.

Lionel Scaloni's men took an early lead through Alexis Mac Allister but were pegged back by Dan Ndoye's finish on 67 minutes. The Swiss were reduced to 10 five minutes later as striker Breel Embolo was shown a second yellow card for simulation, but Argentina were unable to breach Murat Yakin's stubborn rearguard until Julian Alvarez popped up in the 112th minute before Lautaro Martinez made it three in stoppage time.

Argentina are on a mission to become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to successfully defend their World Cup crown, while England are aiming to end 60 years of hurt in search of a second World Cup triumph.

England v Argentina

England's triumph over Norway wasn't without casualties and there were a few fitness issues for Tuchel to contend with in the aftermath.

Declan Rice suffered with a sickness bug in the lead-up to the quarter-final clash and was withdrawn at half-time. Although he is yet to fully recover from the illness, Rice participated in full training on Monday and is expected to get the nod to partner Elliot Anderson once more in midfield.

Ezri Konsa looked fatigued in the latter stages of England's contest against Norway but Tuchel is expected to retain the same back four that started against Norway, meaning the Aston Villa defender will continue at right-back with John Stones partnering Marc Guehi.

Noni Madueke was hauled off at half-time in Miami and Bukayo Saka, despite his ongoing Achilles issue, was a notable improvement in the second half. The Arsenal star insists his "pain free" and should get the nod to accompany Jude Bellingham and Anthony Gordon in support of Harry Kane.

Jarell Quansah remains suspended following the red card he received against Mexico.

As for Argentina, they also suffered the consequences of their attritional battle with Switzerland as both Leandro Paredes and Cristian Romero limped off.

However, both are expected to be fit for the clash against England as La Albiceleste are expected to go unchanged in Atlanta.

Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez are vying for a starting berth after the pair netted during extra time in the win over Switzerland, but Alvarez should retain his place in the starting XI.
