Jude Bellingham scored twice as England came from behind to defeat Norway in extra time in the World Cup quarter-finals.
The Three Lions trailed after 35 minutes when Andreas Schjelderup found the back of the net with a freak strike, but Bellingham restored parity moments before half-time with a superb individual goal.
Neither side were able to find a winner in the second half, but England wasted little time in the opening stages of extra time as their assertive start was rewarded when Bellingham pounced on Nyland's spill to put the Three Lions on their path to the final four.
The stifling heat was a major detriment to the intensity of both teams and it wasn't until the 34th minute that the first shot on target of the match was registered by the head of Erling Haaland, but we didn't have to wait too much later for the opening goal.
Schjelderup, who was influential when coming off the bench in Norway's last-16 triumph over Brazil, produced an outrageous effort from an improbable angle that beat Jordan Pickford and cannoned off the woodwork. Whether he meant it or not, Stale Solbakken's side had the lead and threatened to add a second in the immediate aftermath.
England were rattled, but they regrouped and who else but Bellingham to restore parity. He received a pass from Gordon on the edge of the penalty area, strode into the box and produced a low finish beyond Nyland.
Norway had the ball in the back of the net early in the second half after the Three Lions failed to clear their lines from a corner, but they were handed a major reprieve as replays shown Elliot Anderson was shoved over by Haaland in the build-up to the goal.
Solbakken's outfit came agonisingly close to retaking the lead through an instinctive header from Kristoffer Ajer, who redirected Fredrik Aursnes' effort onto the crossbar before England frantically scrambled to clear their lines.
England mustered more shots on target in the opening three minutes of extra time than they managed in the previous 90, but the one that mattered was Bellingham's second goal of the evening. Nyland spilled Morgan Rogers' testing effort from distance and he anticipated the rebound to send England into the semi-finals of the World Cup.

Bet on England at the World Cup.
Should have done better for Schjelderup's goal. Made some important stops to deny Haaland and Patrick Berg.
An unconvincing performance that does little to solve Thomas Tuchel's right-back woes. Improved in the second half defensively.
A lax moment in possession nearly cost England dearly in the first half but his experience told with some vital interventions. Got better as the game progressed.
Battled hard against Haaland. Produced a collection of clearances and blocks to keep England at bay.
Tasked with an extremely physical challenge against Sorloth but fared well. Forged a fruitful partnership with Gordon in the first half.
A constant presence on both sides of the ball. Abundant energy despite the humid conditions.
Looked jaded. Several set-piece deliveries failed to beat the first man. Lacked the usual verve in midfield.
Pretty ineffective. Lacked the end product to harm Norway and wasted several switches in his direction with poor touches.
The definition of clutch. Once again he dug England out of a desperate situation with the equaliser. Then he anticipates the rebound to send England into the semi-finals.
Was England's best outlet in the opening half and Ryerson struggled to contain him. Scarcely touched the ball in the second period as Norway dominated possession.
Struggled to have an influence both in possession and in the final third. An unusually quiet outing for England's record goalscorer.
Showed flashes of his ingenuity but not enough in the final third.
Had the beating of Wolfe and then had the beating of Pedersen. Unlucky not to score or assist. Attentive to his defensive duties, helping Konsa and James with the threat of Nusa.
Calm and composed in midfield and dealt with the threat of Nusa when positioned at right-back.
You absolutely cannot fault his work ethic. Chased lost causes, was alert to close down his man and created several chances.
Showed his worth almost immediately with great energy to win a throw before firing the effort at goal that resulted in Bellingham's second.
A huge challenge at the end.
