Dorking Wanderers are set to hand a debut to 54-year-old fan Terry Dunn for their National League South fixture against AFC Totton on Saturday.
On 4th September, National League South side Dorking confirmed that "long-time wanderers fan Terry Dunn has joined the side on a short-term contract."
A club statement read: "In light of the unfortunate news that first-team goalkeeper Harrison Foulkes has suffered a spleen injury and will be out of action for up to four weeks – and with the club unable to secure a replacement in time for Saturday’s match against AFC Totton – we are delighted to welcome staunch supporter Terry Dunn to the Wanderers’ ranks."
"Dunn, 54, whose former clubs include the now extinct North Holmwood FC, joins the playing squad on a temporary basis. The stopper was a multiple promotion winner with several local clubs before hanging up his gloves in 1997."
Should Dunn feature on Saturday afternoon, he will become the oldest player to make an appearance in the National League South, with fellow Dorking player Tony Craig - 40-years-old - leading the way after featuring in the club's most recent 1-0 defeat to Hornchurch.
Upon signing for club, the 54-year-old goalkeeper said: “Playing in goal is like riding a bike – you never forget it. I still regularly play walking football. As a Wanderers fan, no one will be trying harder than me to keep a clean sheet on Saturday.”
Long-serving club chairman and first-team manager Marc White added: “In an era where passion comes in low quantities, what Terry lacks in mobility, he’ll make up for in heart – and for one game, we’re just going to have to get on with it.”
Despite Dorking's goalkeeping crisis that could see Dunn start between the sticks at the Meadowbank Stadium this weekend, they are 21/20 favourites to win the match against AFC Totton.
