Date announced for IPL 27 auction

The all-important IPL auction will take place on 16th December ahead of the 2027 season.

Staged in Goa, the event will clash with the second ODI between India and Bangladesh, set to held in Bengaluru.

The auction ill take place almost four weeks on from the retention deadline, which was recently announced for 15th November. Following on from that, the IPL will contact the franchises with the registered player pool to shortlist, before the final list is sent out alongside the order of the sets.

Despite the IPL trade window opening just one month on from the conclusion of the season, there have been just two trades made by teams.

Lucknow Super Giants swapped their skipper Rishabh Pant to Delhi Capitals in return for right-arm leg-spinner Kuldeep Yadav. Keen to make off-season moves, the Capitals also traded seamer Thangarasu Natarajan to Sunrisers Hyderabad in exchange for untested leggy Zeeshan Ansari.

Cameron Green became the most expensive player in IPL history when Kolkata Knight Riders stumped up £2.1m to acquire his services for last season.

The £2.54m that LSG paid for Pant in the 2025 auction remains the most money spent on an IPL trade to date.

There has still be no official confirmation of the dates in which the tournament will take place next year, with BCCI board secretary Devajit Saikia indicating that the 2027 edition could be set to start slightly later, right at the end of March.

The competition traditionally runs up until the end of May, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeating Gujurat Titans in the final earlier this year to land back-to-back successes.

December's auction is set to be the final mini-auction of the current cycle, before a mega-auction takes place in 2027, allowing teams to undergo a major reshuffle.

The most recent mega-auction took place in 2024 and, at the time, led to the three most expensive IPL trades in history.
