Cristiano Ronaldo agrees new Al-Nassr deal

Cristiano Ronaldo has ended uncertainty over his club future by signing a new two-and-a-half-year deal with Al-Nassr.

Portugal's all-time leading goalscorer joined the Saudi Pro League side in 2023 and has since gone on to score 99 times for the club.

Despite Ronaldo's excellent scoring record, trophies have somewhat evaded Al-Nassr during Ronaldo's spell with only an Arab Champions Cup coming his way in his first season.

Rumours swirled around the 40-year-old's future when he posted a cryptic message on social media in May hinting at a potential exit following Al-Nassr's final Saudi Pro League game of the season.

"This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all," Ronaldo posted to his Instagram.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino then raised the possibility that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner could sign for a team who is participating in the Club World Cup after Al-Nassr failed to qualify for the inaugural tournament in the United States.

Both Botafogo and Al-Hilal were mooted as potential destinations but Ronaldo confirmed that he had turned down offers from clubs to play in the competition.

With much discussion over whether Ronaldo would remain in Saudi Arabia heading into the new season, the former Real Madrid man has ended speculation by putting pen to paper on a deal that lasts until 2027.

Ronaldo - who is the all-time leading goalscorer in football history - looks to have his sights set on reaching 1,000 strikes by the end of his career after scoring his 938th goal in early June.

He netted a crucial leveller against Spain in the UEFA Nations League final as he went on to secure the second major trophy of his international career.

This latest success with his country has fuelled the proposition that Ronaldo might play a part in the 2026 World Cup where he is in line to play at a record-breaking sixth tournament.

Next year will see an expanded version of the competition with 48 teams competing across Canada, Mexico and United States.
