New Zealand v India First ODI Prediction, Tips and Bet Builder

New Zealand claimed their first ever ODI series victory in India in January, when back-to-back centuries from Daryl Mitchell powered them to a 2-1 win.

The Black Caps are aiming to frank that form when they face India in a five-match 50-over series starting in Auckland on Wednesday.

India came out on top in the most significant recent white-ball meetings, beating New Zealand in the 2023 World Cup semi-final and the finals of the 2025 Champions Trophy and the 2026 T20 World Cup.

However, they are missing star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and key all-rounder Hardik Pandya in this series and New Zealand have won 28 of their last 30 completed ODIs at home.

New Zealand v India

Match Prediction

New Zealand to win @ 11/10

New Zealand have a stunning home record in ODIs and they look a tempting bet to defeat India, who have lost their way in 50-over cricket this year.

They were beaten at home by the Kiwis in January before a 2-1 series defeat in England in the summer and their bowlers may struggle with the unusual dimensions of the playing area at Auckland's Eden Park.

Best Bet

Shubman Gill to be India top batter @ 3/1

Shubman Gill was not part of the India team that beat New Zealand 3-2 in the T20I series, but the skipper should return to action with a bang in the first ODI.

No batter has scored more ODI runs this year than Gill, whose tally of 895 includes scores of 110 and 223 not out against the West Indies in September.

Series Prediction

New Zealand to win 3-2 @ 11/4

India won the T20I series against New Zealand by a 3-2 scoreline but the Black Caps, who triumphed in the last two 20-over games, can flip the script in the ODIs.

They are outstanding at home in this format and a narrow series defeat may be looming for India despite their star-studded batting line-up.

Player Tips

New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell scored 84, 131 not out and 137 in January's series win in India and his last five ODI scores at home are 43, 78 not out, 56 not out, 44 and 119.

Mitchell is 3/1 to be New Zealand's top batter in the first ODI, although team-mate Glenn Phillips also poses a major threat, having scored a century in the series decider in India and smashing a record 341 runs in last month's T20I series.

Phillips struck 20 sixes in five T20I innings and is 11/8 to hit 2+ maximums for the Black Caps on Wednesday.

India's number four Shreyas Iyer scored 50 in the final T20I and has a cracking ODI record in New Zealand, making 103, 52, 62, 80 and 49 in five innings. He is 4/5 to reach 30 in Auckland.

Jacob Duffy has made a terrific start to his ODI career, picking up 40 wickets in 24 appearances. The seamer claimed 4-23 in the fourth T20I at Eden Park last week and is 1/1 to take at least two wickets on Wednesday.

New Zealand v India Preview

New Zealand are missing opener Devon Conway due to concussion , hile their experienced fast bowler Matt Henry is a doubt for the series opener.

However, the Black Caps are imperious at home in 50-over cricket and they should be confident of upsetting India at Eden Park.

Middle-order men Mitchell and Phillips hold the key for the hosts and spin-bowling all-rounders Michael Bracewell and Mitchell Santner balance the side nicely.

India's batting unit includes veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli but Rohit, who has never scored an ODI century in New Zealand, can expect a tough test against the new ball.

The visitors bat deep, with Axar Patel scheduled to come in at number eight, but they conceded 387-3 in their last away ODI - July's 27-run defeat to England at Lord's.
