England v India Second ODI Prediction, Tips and Bet Builder

England hammered India 4-0 in their T20I series but the tourists bounced back with an impressive six-wicket victory in Tuesday's first ODI at Edgbaston.

The second game takes place in Cardiff on Thursday and England will need an improved batting display to keep alive the three-match series.

Harry Brook's men were reduced to 107-6 in the first ODI, going on to suffer an eighth defeat in their last nine ODIs against India.

England v India Second ODI Tips Summary

Best Bet - Virat Kohli to score a fifty @ 5/2
Alternative Bet - Jos Buttler over 39.5 performance points @ 5/6
Bet Builder - England to hit most sixes, Josh Tongue 1+ wicket & Jacob Bethell under 24.5 runs @ 5/1

England v India Second ODI Prediction

Best Bet: Virat Kohli to score a fifty @ 5/2

Joe Root (76 not out) and Liam Dawson (68) helped England recover from 107-6 to 258 in the first ODI against India.

However, the tourists chased down that target for the loss of only four wickets despite having to overcome several setbacks.

Veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were dismissed cheaply inside the first 10 overs, Shreyas Iyer was run out for 35 and captain Shubman Gill had to retire hurt on 80.

This is likely to be Kohli's final tour of England, so he will be desperate to make up for Tuesday, when he was pinned lbw by Jofra Archer for five.

The 37-year-old looked as good as ever in this season's IPL, top-scoring with an unbeaten 75 to help Royal Challengers Bengaluru win May's final.

Kohli remains an outstanding 50-over batter and he looks a big price to reach 50 in Cardiff, where his three previous ODI scores were 107 against England, 31 against South Africa and 58 not out against Sri Lanka.

Alternative Bet: Jos Buttler over 39.5 performance points @ 5/6

Like Kohli, Jos Buttler was dismissed for five at Edgbaston, but he has a fantastic ODI record at Sophia Gardens.

In 10 appearances in Cardiff, Buttler's performance-points totals were 24, 95, 37, 95, 96, 29, 116, 64, 82 and 35, so he should be backed to clear a line of 39.5.

The England wicketkeeper scored a brilliant 131 in last weekend's fifth T20I at the Rose Bowl and he claimed eight catches and three stumpings in that five-match series.

England v India Second ODI Bet Builder Tip

  • England to hit most sixes

  • Josh Tongue 1+ wicket

  • Jacob Bethell under 24.5 runs

    Pays 5/1

England to hit most sixes looks a good Bet Builder selection. They showcased their batting power in the 4-0 T20I series win and struck five maximums to India's three in the first ODI.

Josh Tongue made his ODI debut for England on Tuesday, bowling India batter KL Rahul, and the fast bowler - who took seven wickets in the last three T20Is - should strike at least once in Cardiff.

England's latest ODI opener Jacob Bethell faces a tough test against India's new-ball bowlers and he has reached 20 in only one of his last seven 50-over innings.

Tactics, Form and Team News

England's Bethell will get another chance to open the batting, having been dismissed for 14 from 31 balls at Edgbaston.

The hosts picked only three fast bowlers in the first ODI, but pacemen Brydon Carse, Gus Atkinson and Saqib Mahmood are also in the squad.

Expected England XI: 1 Ben Duckett, 2 Jacob Bethell, 3 Joe Root, 4 Harry Brook (c), 5 Jos Buttler (wk), 6 Sam Curran, 7 Will Jacks, 8 Liam Dawson, 9 Jofra Archer, 10 Adil Rashid, 11 Josh Tongue.

India will assess the fitness of captain Shubman Gill, who retired hurt due to a hamstring problem after scoring 80 in the opening game. Ishan Kishan is the reserve batter in the squad.

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav is likely to miss out again, but India could recall left-arm quick Arshdeep Singh in place of Gurnoor Brar, their most expensive bowler at Edgbaston.

Expected India XI: 1 Rohit Sharma, 2 Shubman Gill (c), 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Shreyas Iyer, 5 KL Rahul (wk), 6 Washington Sundar, 7 Axar Patel, 8 Shivam Dube, 9 Arshdeep Singh, 10 Jasprit Bumrah, 11 Prasidh Krishna.
