Palmeiras and Estudiantes de La Plata lock horns in the Copa Libertadores final on Saturday 28th November.
Palmeiras took a one-goal advantage when defeating Fluminense 2-1 in the first leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-final, but the tie was forced to penalties after Marco Aurélio de Oliveira's side levelled the scoring on aggregate with a 1-0 win in the second leg.
Palmeiras were flawless from the spot, scoring all five penalties and winning 5-3 to book their spot in a second successive final.
To desribe Estudiantes' two-legged semi-final with Flamengo as tense would be an understatement, playing out two 0-0 draws over 180 minutes of football.
Like Palmeiras, Estudiantes emerged victorious on penalties, with Bruno Henrique's missed spot kick for the hosts guaranteeing the Argentine outfit a spot in their sixth Copa Libertadores final.
Palmeiras are the odds-on favourites to beat Estudiantes and clinch a fourth Copa Libertadores honour.
They last lifted the trophy in 2021 with a 2-1 win over Flamengo, and victory over Estudiantes would see them become the join-most successful Brazilian side in the competition -- joining Flamengo, who have won the prestigious trophy four times.
As for this year's final underdogs, Estudiantes, they won the South American tournament on three successive occasions between 1968 and 1970, before adding a fourth title to their list of accolades in 2009.
The 28th November encounter at the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay, will mark their first final since 2009, and they'll be out to level Penarol as the third most accomplished teams in Copa Libertadores history with five trophies.
Palmeiras and Estudiantes have clashed three times before -- with the Argentine Primera Division side emerging victorious on two occasions -- but all three fixtures date back to 1968, giving us no real insight as to how this one may go.
