Constitution Hill is set to venture to Italy for the next chapter of his Flat career with Nicky Henderson revealing his superstar will tackle the Group 2 Gran Premio del Jockey Club in Milan at the end of October.
After seeing his unbeaten run on the Flat come to an end in the Group 3 September Stakes at Kempton earlier this month, connections have been weighing up the next move for the former National Hunt hero after a step up in quality proved to be a step too far.
This weekend's Cumberland Lodge Stakes at Ascot was viewed as a potential assignment for Constitution Hill, but the predicted quick ground on Saturday means they will not be pressing ahead with the Group 3 contest.
The St Simon Stakes at Newbury on 24th October and the $400,000 Gulf of Bahrain Cup in November were also mentioned.
However, it appears Henderson has now plotted a route out to Italy for the nine-year-old with all eyes on the Gran Premio del Jockey Club – S.I.R.E. Trofeo Pio Bruni.
The €506,000 Group 2 race will take place at San Siro racecourse in Milan on 25th October.
Henderson told the Racing Post: "We're thinking about going to Milan with him. We weren't going to run him at Ascot this weekend because of the ground, and we think we might get his ground out there for him.
"It's where Michael [Buckley, owner] and I would like to go. We've always said we'd like to travel and that he'd take us to places we might never go. I've always said it would be fun and it's a far better idea than Australia."
The Group 2 contest over 1m4f was won by the Andrew Balding-trained Eydon last year, becoming the first British-trained runner to win the race since Richard Hannon's triumph with Raymond Tusk in 2018.
If Constitution Hill features as expected, he will be the oldest to feature in the Group 2 contest in the last decade.
