Cody Gakpo next club: Four contenders to sign Liverpool forward

We've taken a look at the clubs who could sign Cody Gakpo, with the Dutch winger is linked with a Liverpool exit.

The Dutchman initially made the move to Liverpool from PSV in January 2023, after scoring 55 goals and registering 50 assists in 159 matches for the Eredivisie side.

Moving for a fee of around €42m, Gakpo had a strong start to live in Merseyside, registering 23 goal contributions in his first season for the club and playing a key role in their 2024/25 Premier League title win with 25 goals and assists.

Traditionally a winger, who can also play up front, Gakpo has lost his spot in the team in both of those positions, with youngster Rio Ngumoha's form potentially serving as the final nail in his coffin at Anfield.

Alongside his Premier League title, Gakpo was also a member of a League Cup winning side and - despite his lack of form last campaign - the Dutchman would leave the Reds as an overall success.

Aston Villa

According to various reports, Aston Villa are interested in a move for Cody Gakpo, as Unai Emery looks to refresh and rebuild his forward line.

The Villans have been linked with a large number of wingers this summer already, with Gakpo fitting the mould of a versatile attacker which normally fits into Emery's system.

Villa were linked with a move for the Dutchman back in December 2022, with Gakpo ultimately moving to the Reds a month later, as Emery look to strengthen the side he had joined a month prior.

The price tag may prove a stumbling block for the Europa League champions, with Liverpool reportedly likely to demand a fee upwards of £60m for the 27 year-old, while his 120k per week wages would also put him amongst the Villans highest earners.

Tottenham Hotspur

Another club keen on an attacking rebuild, Tottenham Hotspur have been extremely active this transfer window.

Spurs have already secured the signatures of both Marcos Senesi and Andrew Robertson this summer on free transfers, potentially allowing the Lilywhites more room to manoeuvre in other areas.

Left wing has been somewhat of a problem position for Tottenham since the departure of Heung Min Son, with Mathys Tel and Wilson Odobert struggling to nail down a regular spot in the team.

The signing of Gakpo, though potentially expensive, would give Spurs the pacy goal threat that they have been lacking on that side, as they look to finally replace the South Korean.

AC Milan

After missing out on UEFA Champions League qualification for the upcoming campaign, AC Milan are making significant changes this summer.

Currently managerless, I Rossoneri are heavily linked with a move for now-former Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, who will undoubtedly want to improve the calibre of player at the club.

As a result, Cody Gakpo has been named as a potential option to help improve their forward line, especially with Milan's current left winger - Rafael Leao - heavily linked with an exit.

Atletico Madrid

With Antoine Griezmann already departing and Julien Alvarez heavily linked with a move to FC Barcelona, Atletico Madrid will be in the market for attacking talent this summer.

Both Griezmann and Alvarez are extremely versatile, possessing the ability to cover left wing, striker and even attacking midfield - just off the striker - mirroring Gakpo.

While not held in the same regard as the pair, the Dutchman would be a strong squad option for Atleti and could be an option signed to help replace their two talismans.
