Chelsea defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night to send the Premier League relegation battle to the final day.
Just four days after losing the FA Cup final to Manchester City and two days after confirming the appointment of Xabi Alonso, interim manager Calum McFarlane led Chelsea to their penultimate game of the 2025/26 season.
As for Tottenham, they travelled to West London knowing that a win would secure Premier League survival, but, as has been the case with Spurs on too many occasions this term, they fell short.
Enzo Fernandez opened the scoring with a sweet strike in the 17th minute of the game, his 10th goal of the 2025/26 Premier League term.
Spurs' woes were worsened when Andrey Santos scored his first top-flight goal of the campaign in the 66th minute, and a 73rd minute goal from Richarlison proved merely a consolation in a 2-1 defeat.
A point should secure Premier League survival when Tottenham welcome Everton on Sunday afternoon, providing that there's not a dramatic swing in goal difference, but defeat against the Toffees would give West Ham the chance to overtake Spurs with three points against Leeds United.
