Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement with Granit Xhaka regarding a move to Stamford Bridge.
Sky's Florian Plettenberg took to X on Saturday evening, saying: "Granit Xhaka and Chelsea have already reached a full verbal agreement over a transfer. Personal terms have been fully agreed.
"Chelsea are already in contact with Sunderland. Xabi Alonso is pushing hard to sign Xhaka".
Luca Cerchione had reported earlier in the day that Xhaka was a target of Alonso's, with Chelsea submitting a £25m bid.
Xhaka was signed by Sunderland last season for an initial £13m from Bayer Leverkusen, and the Swiss was a pivotal part of the Black Cats' midfield that secured European football, finishing seventh in the Premier League.
Xhaka was an immediate hit on Wearside, winning the club's Player of the Season and Regis Le Bris would be reluctant to his captain leave ahead of their European campaign.
Xhaka was also a pivotal part of Xabi Alonso's midfield at Bayer Leverkusen, being named in the Bundesliga's Team of the Year as a part of the Leverkusen outfit that went the entire Bundesliga season unbeaten, winning the DFB Pokal and reaching the Europa League final.
