Reyes Cleary has made a last-ditch effort to try and force a move from Barnsley after the winger reportedly handed in a transfer request.
Cleary has been the subject of strong interest from multiple Championship sides across the summer, but no club is yet to meet Barnsley's valuation of the 22-year-old.
In a post on X, Sky Sports' Mark McAdam said: "Sky Sports News understands interested clubs have been put off by Barnsley's high valuation of the player.
"It is uncertain if a deal can be done before tonight's deadline."
A multitude of clubs are monitoring the situation, including Millwall, Bristol City and Birmingham City.
Featuring in all three of Barnsley's League One fixtures so far this season, Cleary was instrumental in the Tykes' 3-1 victory over Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road as he scored one and assisted another.
Barnsley have rejected several bids for Cleary throughout the transfer window, including a £3m offer from an unnamed Championship club in August.
Cleary is hot property following a standout League One campaign last term where he led the division in assists alongside Ilmari Niskanen with 13.
The former West Brom academy graduate also chalked up seven league goals as Barnsley finished the campaign in 15th.
Incoming boss Daniel Stendel is eager to retain Cleary as the Tykes plot to ambush the play-off places, but accepts the 22-year-old is free to leave if the right offer comes in.
However, Cleary's stance could weaken Barnsley's resolve, despite their insistence on not selling the winger "on the cheap".
