Burnley plot ambitious summer move for Ligue 1 attacker

Burnley's search for fresh goalscoring talent could reportedly lead them to France with Ligue 1 hot-shot Frank Magri the latest name to be linked with a switch to the Clarets.

The Lancashire side are preparing for life back in the second tier after suffering relegation from the Championship last season, something that ultimately cost boss Scott Parker his job.

However, despite Burnley having not yet announced the former Chelsea and England man's permanent successor, they are continuing to press ahead with their summer recruitment drive.

The club have already been linked with a number of potential transfer targets as they seek an immediate Premier League return, with the latest being the highly sought after 26-year-old, Magri.

The Cameroon international has caught the attention of numerous clubs around the world due to his impressive form in the French top-tier, with German side Schalke and MLS outfit New York Red Bulls understood to have already held discussions with the soone to be free agent's representatives over a move.

Burnley have now joined the race according to The 72, and could look to steal a march on their rivals by offering a lucrative deal with significant promotion-based incentives.

Magri has established himself as one of French football's most creative and dynamic frontmen, netting 15 times in all competitions for Toulouse as well as providing the same number of assists.

Capped 20 times at senior level by his country, winger-cum-striker initially rose to prominence at lower-league level with Anger II, before making a real breakthrough at Bastia, for whom he bagged 15 league goals for across 36 appearances.

He has since seamlessly transitioned to life in Ligue 1, scoring crucial goals for Toulouse in key victories over the likes of Brest, Metz and Nice last term as Les Pitchouns secured a ninth place finish.

Toulouse had hoped to tie Magri down to a new long-term deal, but with talks stalling, Burnley and others are now looking to agree terms with the African as he prepares to depart the Stadium de Toulouse upon the expiration of his existing contract next month.
