Football League expert Callum Fowler believes Nicky Hayen is fortunate to still be in a job at Burnley with the Clarets propping up the Championship table.
Burnley remain the only side in the second tier without a league win this season and Hayen conceded after their 1-1 draw at home to Derby County that his job is under pressure following a dismal start.
The former Club Brugge and Genk manager added he was "convinced" he can turn the tide at Turf Moor, but Hayen faces an arduous task to galvanise an underperforming squad that are poorly organised and susceptible to individual errors.
Burnley are approaching a full calendar year without a home league win, which is a damning statistic even when you consider they were competing in the Premier League for the majority of that period, and the Clarets are at risk of falling into the same trap that befell Leicester City and Luton Town before them.
Hayen retains the backing of the board for now, but the pressure is on the Belgian to pick up results after the international window.
On the latest episode of the Pyramid Podcast, Tom Garratt said: "I've seen a few Burnley fans say that Hayen has to go and they understand why he's got to go, but the manager is not the issue, it's higher up.
"They've lost everyone. They've lost all of their best players and they weren't very good in the first place."
Saturday's score draw with Derby was the third time this season Burnley have failed to convert a winning position into three points and Garratt's co-host Fowler expressed his concerns over the mental frailty in the Clarets camp.
Quizzed on whether Burnley are in relegation trouble, Fowler replied: "Maybe! When I look at it now, I do think the team is poor compared to what it was, but that is still nowhere near a bottom three side. It's not even close.
"I just think they've got no leaders at all. They haven't got that ability to grind out a result, they haven't got it in them.
"Like when you look back on the Sean Dyche team, they currently haven't got any of those types of players. You can still have good players technically that still want to fight a bit.
"They've had a very hard start. Have they got a better team than say Birmingham for example? It's close, and the Birmingham gaffer is constantly in talks about getting sacked. They're eighth, and Burnley are last so of course he's got to go.
"He was like the third choice option as well, so my worry is who are they going to get instead?
"They tried for Craig Bellamy and he just said no. Scott Parker's not going to take it with the position they're in, he'lll only take a West Ham."
Bellamy recently admitted that he turned down the Burnley job to continue with the Wales national team, while the likes of Rob Edwards and former Clarets boss Sean Dyche have been linked to the vacancy amid Hayen's struggles.
Garratt added: "Are Burnley in real trouble? I'm going to say no, because I think they'll get rid of the manager and then they'll be fine. Steve Cooper would be a good appointment, I like the look of that."
