Bromley target Championship forward ahead of maiden League One campaign

Bromley are gearing up for their first ever season in League One, and they've set their sights on a Charlton Athletic forward in a bid to strengthen their attacking options.

The Ravens won the League Two title last term at the second time of asking, having finally escaped the clutches of the National League just two years prior, and Andy Woodman will be keen to remain on that upward trend by avoiding relegation in the next campaign.

The first port of call appears to be planning for the phasing out of Michael Cheek, the club's top scorer for the past seven seasons, with him turning 35 this summer.

Of course he has earned the right to start the League One campaign leading the line for Bromley, but the club are targeting Charlton Athletic's Daniel Kanu as reinforcement should Cheek struggle with adapting to life further up the pyramid - according to Rich Cawley's Substack.

Kanu, who has one goal in six caps for Sierra Leone, seriously impressed on loan at Walsall last season with 18 goals in 44 games across all competitions.

He was also named League Two's Young Player of the Season at the 2026 EFL Awards evening, following it up with a clean sweep at Walsall's end of season presentation where he scooped up Young Player of the Season, Players' Player of the Season and Player of the Season to go with his club top scorer accolade.

The Sierra Leone international has been in and around the Charlton first team before, featuring 71 times and scoring nine goals for the club, though he has fallen behind the likes of Tyreece Campbell, Miles Leaburn and Charlie Kelman in the pecking order at The Valley.

There were rumours that Andy Woodman's side had shown interest prior to Kanu's move to the Bescot Stadium, with talk of a £250,000 bid being turned down by The Addicks as they preferred for him to depart on loan rather than permanently.

It is still unclear as to whether Bromley have the financial power to pull this move off as permanent signing, that will depend on the fee the Championship club demand for his services, but it is increasingly likely that he will be allowed to leave on loan once more.
