Bristol City striker attracting Championship interest as exit looms

Bristol City striker Emil Riis Jakobsen is set to depart Ashton Gate before the end of the transfer window with two Championship clubs primed to make an offer for the Denmark youth international.

The Robins signed Riis in July 2025 on a three-year deal following the expiration of his contract at Preston North End and the 28-year-old netted 12 goals in all competitions during his debut season in BS3.

However, Michael Skubala's squad has been heavily reinforced in attack, with Laurent Tolaj and Dom Ballard joining in multi-million pound deals from Plymouth Argyle and Leyton Orient respectively.

Riis has further slipped down the pecking order under Robins following the arrival of Elijah Adebayo, who joined the club last week after his departure from Luton Town in the summer.

The former Derby County academy player has featured in 47 minutes of action so far this term, coming off the bench in the opening weekend defeat to Millwall in the Championship, but he was omitted from the 20-man squad for the visit of Portsmouth on Saturday.

Championship

Riis is not short of suitors as we approach the final stages of the transfer window and the Dane has offers from the Championship and from across Europe, according to Bristol Live and transfer insider Darren Witcoop.

Several second tier outfits are in the market for a new striker between now and the deadline, including Blackburn Rovers and Riis' former club Preston.

Paul Heckingbottom only has one recognised striker to work with at Deepdale and North End are frantically scrambling around the market as they look to bolster their options following a difficult start to the campaign.

The Lancashire outfit have been linked to Southampton's out of favour forward Cameron Archer.

Riis scored 46 goals and registered 12 assists in 186 appearances for Preston following a £1.2million move from Danish Superliga side Randers.

Riis may not be Bristol City's only departure before the window concludes as central defender Rob Atkinson is reportedly wanted by Championship rivals Portsmouth.
