Brighton step up pursuit of wantaway Championship star

Brighton are reportedly determined to secure a deal to sign Millwall talisman Femi Azeez before Tuesday's transfer deadline.

Azeez has been repeatedly linked with a move away from Millwall this summer after playing a starring role in the club's run to the Championship play-offs last season.

Wrexham were one of a number of clubs said to have been circling the 25-year-old, but he is reportedly intent on a move to the Premier League.

According to The Athletic, Brighton have already had two formal bids rejected for Azeez, with the most recent of those worth in excess of £10million.

That figure is said to be significantly lower than Millwall's valuation of their talisman.

Millwall's current record departure came two years ago when the club sold Romain Esse to Crystal Palace for a reported £12million with add-ons.

For Brighton's pursuit to be successful they would likely need to exceed that figure, with some reports suggesting The Lions value Azeez at around £20million.

The Seagulls are expected to return with another offer prior to Tuesday's transfer deadline, with Azeez said to be prioritising a move to the Amex over all other potential suitors.

Should he complete a transfer to the South Coast club Azeez would become Brighton's eighth permanent signing of the summer.

The Seagulls kicked off their campaign with a 4-0 thrashing of Aston Villa before losing 4-3 to Chelsea on Sunday.
