Brighton launch ambitious bid to sign Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic

Brighton have reportedly made a bid to sign Croatian central defender Luka Vuskovic from Tottenham Hotspur.

David Ornstein of The Athletic took to 'X' to exclusively break the news, stating that the South Coast outfit have made a '£30m offer' to sign one of 'Europe's most coveted players'.

He added that the defender 'favours' Brighton as the 'best step' for his development, sharing a 'mutual trust' with Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler.

Premier League

It was less than a week ago that Spurs saw their bid to sign Jan Paul van Hecke rejected by Brighton, but forthcoming discussions between the two clubs are now expected to concern Vuskovic.

The defender emerged through the ranks at Croatian outfit Hajduk Split, where he would make 11 senior appearances for the club before making a permanent switch to Tottenham in 2025.

While Vuskovic joined with a high ceiling, there remained an overarching sense that he would require game time before breaking into the first team setup in North London.

August of 2025 saw the promising talent make a temporary move to Bundesliga side Hamburger SV, where he played 28 top-flight games in a stellar 2025/26 campaign. Last season marked Hamburger's first in the first division since 2017/18, and Vuskovic was crucial in ensuring Merlin Polzin's side didn't face an instant drop back down to 2. Bundesliga.

Spurs were arguably crying out for a defender of Vuskovic's quality throughout the 2025/26 term, where they narrowly avoided relegation, but even so there's no guarantee that he walks into Roberto De Zerbi's side upon his return.

The North London outfit hope to keep Micky van de Ven, have already signed Marcos Senesi and remain in discussions to recruit Brighton defender Van Hecke.

Given Spurs' interest in the Dutchman and Brighton's pursuit of Vuskovic, a swap deal of some sort could be considered, but De Zerbi's side may want some assurances that they could make a further profit on the defender should he move on from the Seagulls.
