Championship clubs Birmingham City, Southampton and Norwich City have all expressed an interest in taking Manchester United defender Godwill Kukonki on loan for the 2026/27 season, according to a report.
Kukonki was set to leave United this summer on a permanent basis after failing to agree terms over a first professional contract and the precocious defender had considered a future away from Old Trafford as he considered first-team opportunities elsewhere.
However, with Kukonki now in the third year of his scholarship agreement, the defender appears likely to remain at Man Utd and if a pro deal is signed before the conclusion of the transfer window, a loan move could be on the cards.
As revealed by the Manchester Evening News, United have received loan enquiries from Birmingham, Norwich and Southampton, while clubs from across Europe have also expressed an interest in acquiring Kukonki.
The Stoke-born defender, who has been on the books at United since the age of five, was included in Ruben Amorim's squad for the Premier League fixture against Arsenal in November 2024.
Kukonki featured on the bench against Leeds United and Newcastle United last season, but he is still yet to make his first senior appearance.
The 6ft 5in defender has been played at left-back in the academy, but United view his long-term future at centre-back.
Kukonki has represented England's youth teams at various age levels, and made his England U18 debut in March 2026 during a 4-1 win over Bulgaria.
Highly regarded at Carrington, United hope to tie Kukonki down to a long-term deal with the option to sample first-team opportunities elsewhere in the forthcoming season.
Birmingham have bolstered their defensive ranks with the addition of Dael Fry on a free transfer from Middlesbrough, but there is uncertainty around the future of Phil Neumann and Kukonki's versatility would be appreciated, even if Chris Davies is well-stocked in the left-back department.
Norwich acquired centre-back Bruno Alves on loan from Cruzeiro with an option to buy at the end of the season. while the Canaries strengthened their left-back options with the addition of Darin Yongwa from FC Lorient. Philippe Clement confirmed last week the club were closing in on a new left-back signing, while Norfolk outfit were open to offers for Jakov Medic, which presents a vacancy in central defence.
Southampton have been busy replenishing their attacking personnel, but Tonda Eckert could benefit from competition for Taylor Harwood-Bellis and Jack Stephens in central defence.
