A Trixie is a bet where three selections are combined to make four total bets, and works the same as a Yankee but with three selections rather than four.
A Trixie is comprised of three doubles and one treble.
A Trixie gives you the opportunity to place a treble bet whilst still getting a return if one of your selections loses.
To place a Trixie, add three selections to your bet slip and select 'show more multiples', then enter your stake into the Trixie box and place your bet.
A Trixie bet is four bets combined in one and is comprised of three doubles and one treble.
If we take the below selections for the 2025 Cheltenham Festival, you can see the odds breakdown of each part of a Trixie.
Champion Hurdle - Constitution Hill @ 7/4
Mares' Hurdle - Lossiemouth @ 5/2
Champion Chase - El Fabiolo @ 2/1
With these three selections, your four combinations would be:
As you can see from the above example, you only need two winners out of three in order to receive a return.
The only difference for an each-way Trixie bet is your total stake will double to cover the place part of each bet.
For example, if you have a £1 win only Trixie, your total stake will be £7. If you have a £1 each-way Trixie, your total stake will be £14.
This essentially acts as two separate Trixie; a win-only Trixie and a place Trixie. If you had one selection win and another selection place, you'd be paid out for the winning place double (all seven win bets would be settled as losers). If one selection wins and the other two place, you'd be paid out as a loser on all seven win bets, but a winner on all seven place bets.
You can place a Trixie on whatever sport you like, though horse racing is perhaps the most popular due to the larger odds involved and the chance of a return even when backing a losing selection.
