Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich got their Club World Cup campaign off to the perfect start as they thrashed New Zealand side Auckland City 10-0 in Cincinnati.
The 10-0 triumph over the semi-professional outfit is the biggest victory margin in the history of the Club World Cup, eclipsing Al-Hilal's 6-1 win over Al-Jazira in 2021.
With a squad including estate agents, teachers and students, it quickly became apparent that Auckland City were out of their depth against the European heavyweights.
Bayern took the lead in the sixth minute as Kingsley Coman flicked the ball home following a Jonathan Tah knockdown from a Joshua Kimmich corner.
After some momentary solitude for the New Zealand outfit, goals from Sacha Boey, Michael Olise and a second from Coman gave Bayern a four-goal lead with just 21 minutes on the clock.
Further strikes from Thomas Muller and Olise made it six before the interval as the German champions continued to be ruthless rather than looking to sit back on their comfortable lead.
Manager Vincent Kompany made substitutions in the second half but it was clear from his expressions on the touchline that he wanted more goals from his side.
Auckland held firm until the 67th minute when substitute Jamal Musiala made it seven, before the creative midfielder then found the net twice more to complete a fine hat-trick.
There was even still time for Muller to make it double figures in the 89th minute as he scored his 250th goal for the club and wrapped up the easiest of victories.
Bayern Munich have tougher tests to come in the group as they face Boca Juniors and Benfica, while Auckland will be hoping to restore a degree of respectability despite their status as minnows at the tournament.
