Declan Rice scored a late equaliser to earn a valuable point at Bayern München as Arsenal extended their impressive unbeaten league phase run to 15 matches.
In an eagerly anticipated showdown between the Bundesliga and Premier League champions, it was a fairly cagey opening until the visitors suffered a major injury blow after just nine minutes.
After bursting forward and passing the ball to a teammate, Bukayo Saka looked in real discomfort as he went down unchallenged and immediately signalled to the bench before limping off and being replaced by Eberechi Eze.
On 25 minutes, it was Eze who opened the scoring as he latched onto a superb pass from Martin Odegaard and unleashed a terrific strike into the bottom corner. The goal was initially given offside but VAR intervened and the goal was given.
The Gunners only had the lead for 10 minutes as Kane showed off his fantastic passing range by sending Alphonso Davies through on goal and the Canadian made no mistake to level proceedings.
Both sides had efforts on goal but it was 1-1 at the break following an eventful and high-quality first 45 minutes.
A fast start to the second half resulted in both goalkeepers being forced into producing heroic saves within a matter of minutes.
First up, Manuel Neuer somehow clawed the ball onto the underside of the bar and just clear of danger to keep out Gabriel's header, before David Raya reacted brilliantly to save a close-ranger header from Dayot Upamecano.
Another huge moment came just after the hour mark as Kane's goalbound shot hit Jurriën Timber's raised hand to leave the referee with no option but to point to the penalty spot.
Kane slammed the spot kick into the roof of the net to give the hosts the lead and also keep his incredible goalscoring run going.
The England captain has now scored in 10 consecutive UEFA Champions League fixtures and will equal Cristiano Ronaldo's record if he finds the back of the net in his next European outing.
Kane is the odds-on favourite to win the Ballon d'Or when it is announced on Monday and his goal was a 16th against Arsenal and made it 156 goals in 158 games for the German giants.
With Arsenal facing a first defeat in the league phase since November 2024, Declan Rice stepped up to round off an extremely well-worked move and rescue a point.
The midfielder collected the ball and played a wonderful one-two with substitute Viktor Gyökeres before unleashing an unstoppable drive into the far corner to score his first goal of the season and earn a valuable point at Fußball Arena München.
Mikel Arteta's side have now taken seven points from a possible nine and travel to Slavia Praha in their next European outing, while Bayern München face a tricky trip to Atlético de Madrid.
