Barcelona are in direct talks with Newcastle United over the signing of winger Anthony Gordon, according to reports.
The future of the England international has been the source of much speculation in recent months, ever since reports emerged that Gordon was "seeking a new challenge" and wished to move on from the Tyneside club at the end of the season.
With the 25-year-old seemingly on the market this summer, there have been a whole host of clubs rumoured to be interested in capturing his signature.
Bayern Munich and Liverpool have both been mentioned as potential suitors but now, according to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, it is Barcelona who have opened dialogue with Newcastle regarding a move to Spain.
"Barcelona are moving forward with the operation to sign Anthony Gordon (25), the Newcastle striker," wrote Mundo Deportivo's chief Bareclona reporter Ferran Martínez.
"Despite the tough competition from Bayern Munich and Liverpool, the England international is prioritising joining the club, eager to join the project led by Hansi Flick, Deco and Joan Laporta."
Barca are enjoying a brilliant period under Flick, winning back-to-back La Liga and Supercopa de Espana titles as well as lifting the Copa del Rey in 2024/25.
With superstar winger Lamine Yamal occupying the right hand side, there has been a number of players attempting to lock down a regular spot on the left flank, including Gordon's England teammate Marcus Rashford.
Rashford performed well when called upon this season, racking up 25 goal contributions in all competitions, however, his long term future is still up in the air with Barcelona and parent club Manchester United still in discussions over a permanent solution.
The report also claims that Barca's director of football Deco, joined by assistants Bojan Krkic and Joao Amaral, had even made a trip over to the UK to advance discussions with Gordon and Chelsea striker Joao Pedro.
"The recent trip of the director of football to London was not only to make contacts for Joao Pedro, Chelsea's centre-forward, but was also related to the strong interest in signing Anthony Gordon, a clear priority objective for the Barcelona club," continued Martinez.
