After the departure of Arne Slot at the end of last season, there is renewed optimism at Anfield following the appointment of Andoni Iraola.
It was hard to see things going so spectacularly wrong on Merseyside on the back of a Premier League-winning 2024/25 campaign, particularly given the significant investment into the playing squad.
But Slot struggled to fit the new signings into his system and battled with a seemingly never-ending injury crisis throughout the season.
The Reds just about qualified for the UEFA Champions League but left little mark on any competition last season, and the style of football did little to win fans over.
As such, the Reds hierarchy have moved for Iraola after an excellent spell at Bournemouth, with the former Cherries boss tasked with not only bringing silverware to Anfield, but doing so in style.
Speaking to bet365 News, Liverpool fan Abigail Rudkin gave us her thoughts on the upcoming campaign.
What are you most looking forward to seeing from Liverpool this season?
I'm hoping we can get a bit more out of Alexander Isak, see him stay fit and put in some good performances. It’s difficult because we haven’t made that many signings which is a bit of a worry.
I’m hoping for a more intense style of football under Iraola. I’d like to go back to something which feels a bit more exciting inside of Anfield, because I missed that last season. It just felt so slow and uncomfortable.
It became quite sad leaving the ground with my dad so I want to be in a situation where I'm at least walking out of the ground thinking they’ve put in a good performance and it was exciting, but I don’t know how long it’ll take to get to Jurgen Klopp levels of exciting.
If Liverpool could sign one more player this summer, who would it be?
It’d have to be Bradley Barcola. That seems to be the one that we’re going for. Hugo Ekitike’s going to be injured for a long time, Mohamed Salah’s gone and we might be selling Cody Gakpo.
That’d be exciting, but it’s a lot of money to spend on a player I don’t personally think is worth it, but that’s just the market.
What's a good season for Liverpool?
A good season for Liverpool would be a final at Wembley and then top four or five. As long as we get UEFA Champions League football next season. It feels quite sad to accept that having only won the league two seasons ago but for me I’d just like to see a bit of excitement going for the top four.
What's a bad season for Liverpool?
Finishing outside the Champions League places would be terrible, especially considering Arne Slot managed to get us Champions League football for this year and if the manager isn’t able to do that, it’d probably be a really, really poor season.
For all Liverpool fans the Champions League is the pinnacle, it’s what we romanticise so that’d be my priority.
