Amir Khan has been mooted as a potential opponent for Manny Pacquiao on the undercard of Tyson Fury vs Anthony Joshua at Cardiff's Principality Stadium
If news of Fury vs AJ wasn't big enough, reports that Pacquiao could be in line to star on the co-main event amplified the thrill of Friday 11th December even further.
The reported plan was for 'Pac-Man' to take on pound-for-pound great Shakur Stevenson, but financial restrictions are said to have obstructed the clash, with headliners Fury and Joshua already in line to take home record-high fees.
Monetary limitations are likely to prevent Stevenson's participation on the card, but there remains an eagerness to include Pacquiao on the card to bolster the already seismic card.
Boxing Scene reported: "In an effort to maximize its global audience for the card, Netflix officials have expressed that adding record eight-division champion and Hall of Famer Pacquiao can provide massive, continent-wide viewership from Asia and beyond given his worldwide, household-name standing.
"Who he’ll fight is unknown. One connected official said it will not be IBF welterweight champion Liam Paro. Retired champion fighters Danny Garcia and Amir Khan have been proposed."
It's not the first time that Khan's name has been linked to a boxing return, but a potential bout with all-time great Pacquiao may represent a payday greater than he could imagine after four years away from the sport.
After nearly three years out of the ring, the former two-time champion returned to fight long-term rival Kell Brook in February 2022, where he was defeated via TKO in the sixth round despite displaying signs of promise.
A two-year ban followed after testing positive for a banned substance, and he's yet to return since his suspension expired in April 2024.
Khan has previously indicated that Pacquiao is the only fighter that could lure him out of retirement, and what bigger occasion than the co-main event on the Fury vs Joshua card?
