Ka Ying Rising out to scale Everest for the second time

11 of Australia's best take on the world's best as Ka Ying Rising tries to win The Everest for a second successive year.

The six-furlong contest guarantees a prize money total of £9.9m, making it the richest turf race on the planet and regularly attracts a star-studded sprinting field.

This year is no different and will captivate viewers from all corners with the inclusion of the highest-rated in the world, Ka Ying Rising (1/2).

A winner on his last 21 starts, the seven-and-three-quarter-length success that he pulled off at Sha Tin last time forced the LONGINES World's Best Racehorse Rankings to act and bump his rating up to an eye-watering 135.

His draw in stall 11 has divided opinion in recent days, however, the immense speed that he possesses should allow him to take up a decent position under regular rider Zac Purton. Despite winning, some were underwhelmed by his performance here in 2025, but trainer David Hayes has insisted that he is as good as ever heading into the weekend. Rainfall earlier in the week turned the ground heavy, a first for Ka Ying Rising, who is used to the exceptionally fast surfaces that are produced over in Hong Kong.

Australia's main hopes of bringing the race back home seem to be pinned on Tempted (19/5). She was runner-up to Ka Ying Rising in this race last year but the Godolphin-owned filly has looked a vastly improved model ever since then. She has landed five races on the spin since that aforementioned Everest defeat and what she did over course and distance in the Premiere Stakes last time out was far above any of her prior efforts.

That pair take up the lion's share of the market, leaving punters with big prices for the remainder of the field. Jimmysstar (14/1) was third in the race last year, Giga Kick (40/1) actually won this in 2022 and Joliestar (15/1) has five Group 1s on her CV.

One horse that ruffled a few feathers in the barrier trial and saw plenty of support as a result was Ninja (18/1). He finished ahead of Ka Ying Rising in the warm-up for this event and was impressive when winning the Group 2 Missile Stakes over course and distance last time out.
