2026 Breeders' Cup Classic betting odds, runners & preview

Forever Young attempts to become the first back-to-back winner of the Breeders' Cup Classic since Tiznow more than 25 years ago.

In what might be his final race, the Japanese superstar looks to have a great chance of creating history by becoming only the second-ever dual winner of the contest.

Saturday's £5.1m feature will evoke memories of superstar colt Flightline, who ran away with the Classic when it was last staged in Keeneland in 2022.

2026 looks like it's going to deliver on the clash that 2025 promised, as Sovereignty finally lines up in a Classic. Arguably the most talented runner across the whole meeting, Godolphin's Stateside star was a late withdrawal during his Classic season; a season in which he won a Kentucky Derby, Belmont Stakes and Travers Stakes.

Defeat to White Abarrio and Magnitude led some to suggest that he had not returned the same horse, however, he put an end to that notion when swatting aside superstar filly Nitrogen in the Whitney.

It will be some sight seeing Sovereignty come with his trademark sweeping run, but he may have reigning champion Forever Young for company.

Victory on Saturday will see Yoshito Yahagi's globetrotting star tick close to the £27m mark in career earnings, adding to a CV that already boasts a Classic, Saudi Derby, UAE Derby, Jockey Club Gold Cup and the small matter of two Saudi Cups. Although he is yet to produce an absolutely outstanding figure, Sovereignty could be the one to bring it out of him.

While we were robbed of the Kentucky Derby in this race last year, there is no such problem this time around, as Golden Tempo gears up for his toughest test yet. Another that will try to pick up from off the pace, he needs a very specific setup to be seen at his best and will not have been helped by the scratching of Magnitude.

Godolphin run not one, but two in their quest to land a maiden Breeders' Cup Classic title. Knightsbridge arrives here as Bill Mott's second string -- not a bad backup -- off the back of two extremely taking victories. His first, a ten-and-a-half-length thumping of Money Game, has been backed up with a second thrashing, this time a six-and-a-quarter-length beating of Original Sin. This is his second go at 10 furlongs, and on the evidence of his first try, he has more than enough potential to mix it in this company.
