History

The first edition of the Asia Cup took place in 1984 and was won by India.

Early iterations of the tournament included a lot less teams with the first contested between just India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka are the only nation to appear at every single Asia Cup after India (1986) and Pakistan (1990/91) staged boycotts.

Up until 2016, the event was staged as an ODI tournament but the format is now on a rotation basis and corresponds with the upcoming ICC event.

India is the most successful team in the history of the Asia Cup - winning it on eight different occasions.

Current Holders

India are the current holders after defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the 2023 final.
