10 players Coventry City could sign following promotion to Premier League

Coventry City are preparing for life in the Premier League next season after they secured promotion from the Championship with a 1-1 draw at Blackburn Rovers.

The Sky Blues have not played in the top-flight of English football since the 2000/01 season when they were relegated to the second-tier alongside Manchester City and Bradford City.

Coventry have been the clear standout team in the Championship this season under the stewardship of Frank Lampard, who has proved a few doubters wrong in the process.

The likes of Haji Wright, Milan van Ewijk and Matt Grimes already look ready for the Premier League, while it remains to be seen whether the club will look to make the loan moves of Carl Rushworth and Frank Onyeka permanent over the summer.

Attention will now turn towards building on their squad to ensure it is ready for Premier League football come August.

We've put together a list of 10 players who Coventry could target over the summer.

Premier League

Nick Pope

With current Brighton & Hove Albion number one Bart Verbruggen linked with a move away this summer, Rushworth could well be given the nod in goal on the south coast next season.

While Lampard has made no secret of his desire to keep Rushworth, he will have one eye on alternatives and an England international could be available.

Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope is out of contract at the end of the season and he has lost his place to Aaron Ramsdale in recent times.

He has made almost 250 appearances in the Premier League and he will feel that he still has something to give at the top level.

Michael Keane

Michael Keane has been a key part of Everton's backline this season but he is yet to agree a new deal at the club.

The 33-year-old has 12 England caps to his name and he has been part of the Toffees side which is in contention to secure European football.

David Moyes is a big admirer of the defender but ambitions are high at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and Keane could find himself a victim of the club's desire to challenge for trophies.

Keane would bring invaluable Premier League experience to Coventry's backline if they are able to secure his signature.

Maxime Esteve

With Burnley seemingly heading for an immediate return to the Championship, they are likely to have a fight on their hands to keep hold of the talented French defender.

Esteve was named in the Championship team of the season in 2024/25 as a miserly Burnley backline secured promotion to the Premier League.

The club have struggled at the higher level this season but Esteve is a player who will come out with some credit.

At six foot four, Esteve would provide an imposing presence in the Coventry defence and it is likely that he would jump at the chance to stay in the Premier League.

Ryan Sessegnon

There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding Fulham as they approach the end of another positive season.

Manager Marco Silva is out of contract next month, while there are a number of question marks surrounding some of their key players.

Ryan Sessegnon could be available on a free transfer in the event that he does not sign a new contract at Craven Cottage.

His ability to play left-back, left wing-back and on the left wing would provide Lampard with plenty of versatility.

Hayden Hackney

One of the questions that Lampard will be asking is how much is available in the transfer kitty?

Sunderland are a good example of a newly-promoted club spending wisely in the transfer market and Coventry will need to spend to ensure that they have a competitive squad.

Middlesbrough's Hayden Hackney has arguably been the best player in the Championship this season but he is likely to command a transfer fee of around £30 million.

His availability could depend on the outcome of Middlesbrough's promotion challenge, but a midfield duo of Hackney and Grimes would be an excellent prospect.

Nicolas Raskin

Belgian international Nicolas Raskin would be a slightly cheaper option than Hackney but he would certainly be a shrewd addition to the Sky Blues midfield.

A disagreement with former Rangers boss Russell Martin threatened to curtail his time in Scotland but he has been excellent under Danny Rohl as the Scottish giants look to secure the league title.

Raskin looks set to be involved in Belgium's World Cup squad this summer and he could have a number of potential suitors.

Rangers will be desperate to keep hold of Raskin but the lure of Premier League football could sway his decision.

Malik Tillman

USA winger Malik Tillman would certainly be a statement signing at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

The Bayer Leverkusen player has been a key player in the Bundesliga this season and he is another player who will be hoping to excel at this summer's World Cup.

There have been tentative links to Liverpool and Fulham in recent weeks and he looks to have all the tools to thrive in the Premier League.

He has also represented Bayern Munich, Rangers and PSV in his career despite being just 23 years old.

Jens Petter Hauge

Norwegian winger Jens Petter Hauge has been one of the stars of Bodo/Glimt's remarkable journey over the last couple of years.

As well as reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Europa League last season, the club also reached the Last 16 of the UEFA Champions League this season.

The 26-year-old caught the eye with two goals against Tottenham Hotspur in September, before scoring in both legs of the Round of 32 victory over Inter Milan.

Bodo/Glimt face a battle to keep their squad together over the summer and Hauge is at the top of the list of players who they will want to stay.

Marc Guiu

It will only be a matter of time before everyone starts linking Lampard with a plethora of fringe players at his former club Chelsea.

Josh Acheampong and Tyrique George could well be available, certainly on loan deals, but the biggest prospect for a newly-promoted club could be Marc Guiu.

The Spanish youngster is unlikely to challenge for a place in Chelsea's team and a loan move looks extremely likely.

He was quickly recalled from a loan spell at Sunderland in August following an injury to Liam Delap and Guiu will want regular game time next season.

Zan Vipotnik

The Swansea striker is top of the Championship goalscoring charts this season.

He has been linked with Brighton & Hove Albion recently and it seems likely that his future will be outside of Wales next season.

The Slovenian international has impressed in the second-tier and he appears to have the physicality which would help him in the Premier League.

A fee of around £20 million is likely to be required to secure his services and there could be a few options for him this summer.
