At bet365, we don’t do ordinary.
And neither does Washington Commanders defensive tackle Daron Payne.
Since being selected by Washington with the 13th overall pick in the 2018 draft, Payne has been a mainstay in one of the best defensive lines in the NFL.
The 26-year-old has missed just one game across his first five-and-a-half seasons in the pros, recording a total of 27 sacks, 46 tackles for loss, and six forced fumbles.
Payne’s 2022 campaign was his best yet. He logged career-highs in sacks (11.5), tackles (64), tackles for loss (18), and QB hits (20) to earn him a spot in the Pro Bowl alongside fellow interior lineman Jonathan Allen.
Payne was rewarded with a new four-year contract in March 2023, keeping him in Washington for the foreseeable future.
“Me wanting to wake up every morning and get to it, no matter how I feel or what I’m going through,” Payne said. “I always come in and just try to get to work.”
Payne has proven to be a model of consistency throughout his entire football career.
He appeared in 44 games across three seasons at Alabama, two of which ended in national championships, and has played in 89 of a possible 90 games since entering the NFL in 2018.
Payne said he gets his drive to show up and give his best every day from those around him.
“In the league, being around all my teammates, my different coaches. Playing at Alabama, I learned, took little bits and pieces from everybody and tried to bring it into my everyday.”
Off the football field, one of Payne’s passions are his cars, of which he has eight. He’s got everything from Maybach trucks, to old-school cars, to off-road vehicles like dirt bikes.
Payne regularly poses in front of his cars on his Instagram page – that is, when he’s not putting in the work needed to be one of the NFL’s top interior linemen.
