Our resident boxing expert Rob Tebbutt shares his tips ahead of the highly-anticipated bout between former undisputed lightweight champion Devin Haney and WBC super lightweight champion Regis Prograis.
This is an excellent fight that really has captured the imagination of boxing fans all over the world, as Devin Haney seeks to become a two-weight world champion against a legitimate world champion himself in Regis Prograis
For me, the value is on Devin Haney this weekend to get behind that long jab, control the distance, and win a decision, which is priced at -225.
Devin Haney, as we know, not the biggest puncher in the sport, so +650 on him to get the knockout against Prograis this weekend, while a very good price, is not really something I can see happening.
Regis Prograis has shown his toughness in the past and Haney, while I do think may be a little bit fresher and more athletic up at 140 lbs, is a boxer and I can’t see him really willing to risk trading with Regis Prograis in order to get that stoppage.
Do not count out Regis Prograis - as I mentioned +300 to win via any method. I can’t see him out-boxing Devin Haney, but that left hand does carry power.
We’ve seen Devin Haney caught by the left hand by the likes of Jo Jo Diaz and Vasiliy Lomachenko, two southpaws themselves like Regis Prograis.
I do like the superior skill set of Devin Haney, he’ll be able to control the distance and ultimately keep Regis Prograis at the end of that jab for the full 12 rounds.
