At bet365, we don’t do ordinary.
And neither does Washington Commanders rookie corner back Emmanuel Forbes Jr.
Whether it be his lightning-quick speed or elite ball skills, Forbes always stands out on the football field.
After a record-setting collegiate career at Mississippi State University, in which he set a new FBS record with six interceptions returned for touchdowns across three seasons, Forbes was selected by the Commanders with the 16th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Forbes’ Never Ordinary Moment came in Week 2 of his junior season at Mississippi State.
Coming off a comfortable 49-23 win in the season opener against Memphis, the Bulldogs traveled to Tucson for a date with the Arizona Wildcats.
Up 15-7 at the start of the second quarter, the Mississippi State defense looked to contain Arizona quarterback Jayden de Laura as he drove his team down the field. With the ball on the 26-yard-line, de Laura dropped back and lofted a pass to the back left corner of the end zone.
The result was one of the most acrobatic plays of the college football season.
Covering Arizona wide-out Tetairoa McMillan, Forbes turned his body as he entered the end zone, then caught the ball high above his head while leaping and falling backwards. His momentum carried him out of the left side of the end zone, but not before tapping his left foot in-bounds.
Forbes knew immediately he got his foot in-bounds, pointing to the spot he landed after getting back to his feet, and that the interception would stand.
“I don’t know how my body allowed me to do that,” Forbes said. “It was a crazy interception.”
Plays like that not only caught the attention of NFL scouts, but they earned Forbes first-team All-SEC and All-American honors in his junior season.
