World Series Game 3 review: Texas Rangers face injury concerns in win

The World Series shifted to Arizona on Tuesday night for Game 3 and the Texas Rangers beat the Diamondbacks to retake the series lead 2-1.

Unlike Game 1 (6-5 Rangers win) and Game 2 (9-1 Diamondbacks win), Game 3 was a much lower scoring game which the Rangers won 3-1.

Texas-sized injury concerns for Rangers

The Rangers prevailed 3-1, but they also saw two key players go down injured: Max Scherzer and Adolis Garcia.

Scherzer, the Rangers’ Game 3 starter, was pulled in the third inning with a back injury. Up until this point, he had pitched three shutout innings and only allowed two hits.

Luckily for the Rangers, their bullpen was there to fill in the rest of the way. Most notably was Jon Gray. He came in as the long reliever for the Rangers, throwing 3.0 shutout innings and allowing just one hit.

Garcia was forced to exit this game in the eighth inning with left side tightness.

This could be a massive blow to the Rangers. Garcia has been one of the biggest contributors during the Rangers’ run to the World Series and he leads all players in home runs this postseason with eight.

The Rangers scored all of their runs in the third inning. This was propelled by an RBI single from Marcus Semien and a two-run home run from Corey Seager.

D-Backs bats come up short

The Diamondbacks started Brandon Pfaadt, who went 5.1 innings and allowed three earned runs.

The Diamondbacks even outhit the Rangers 6 to 5, but they went 2/7 with runners in scoring position which doomed them in the end.

One silver lining is that the Diamondbacks’ bullpen was solid. After Pfaadt was pulled, the Diamondbacks shut out the Rangers for the remainder of the game.

Miguel Castro went 0.2 innings, Kyle Nelson went 1.0 innings, Luis Frias went 1.2 innings, and Andrew Saalfrank went 0.1 innings.

The only offense from the Diamondbacks in Game 3 came in the bottom of the eighth inning from an RBI single by Geraldo Perdomo.

With the World Series now nearly halfway completed, the Diamondbacks cannot afford to drop Game 4 at home which would see them fall behind 3-1 in the series.

The bad news for Arizona is that after the Game 3 win by the Rangers, Texas is now 9-0 in the postseason when playing on the road.
