American swimmer Katie Ledecky is the heavy favorite to win the women's 1500m freestyle, which would see her earn a second gold medal in the event.
Ledecky holds the world record in the women's 1500m freestyle, posting a time of 15:20.48 back in 2018.
The 1500m freestyle race was only added to the Olympic schedule during the last Games in Tokyo. Before those Games, there had been no women's races longer than 800m.
Ledecky won the inaugural Olympic women's 1500m freestyle race, swimming it in 15:37.34 to capture the gold medal. In the preliminary heat race, she set an Olympic record with a time of 15:35.35.
Since winning the first-ever gold medal in this event on the women's side, Ledecky won 1500m freestyle gold at the 2022 and 2023 World Aquatics Championships. At the 2023 edition, she finished 17 seconds ahead of the second-placed swimmer.
At 2024 Olympic trials, she finished first in this event just over 20 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
The women's 1500m freestyle final will be broadcast on NBC, which can be viewed through linear or cable TV packages as well as with live TV streaming apps such as YouTubeTV or FuboTV.
The event will also be available to stream on Peacock.
The women's swimming 1500m freestyle final race is scheduled to start at 3:13 PM ET/12:13 PM PT on Wednesday, July 31 with the race taking place at Paris La Defense Arena in Nanterre, France.
