South Carolina Women vs. NC State Women: Picks, Predictions and Odds

Read the latest betting picks, predictions and odds for the women's tournament national semifinal between No. 1 South Carolina and No. 3 NC State.

If there is an underdog remaining in the women’s tournament, it is NC State. Despite a 31-6 overall record and wins over No. 2 seed Stanford and No. 1 seed Texas to win the Portland 4 Region, the Wolfpack are barely mentioned with South Carolina, Iowa and Connecticut when it comes to national champion hopefuls.

NC State hopes that plays to its advantage when it matches up against the top-ranked Gamecocks (36-0) in the first last four matchup on Friday night at Rocket Mortgage Arena, Cleveland at 7 PM ET.

This is NC State’s first appearance in the last four since 1998. The Wolfpack have won eight of nine coming into this contest, beating both the Cardinal and the Longhorns by 10 points in regional play.

The Gamecocks are back at the scene of the crime. They were undefeated and in this same spot a year ago before falling to Iowa.

South Carolina vs. NC State betting picks and predictions

NC State +12

The Wolfpack are humming right now. Even though the Gamecocks should win, they struggled with Indiana in their region semifinal and have played much tighter contests since the end of the regular season.

Aziaha James has been playing at a high level for NC State. She is averaging 18.3 points in her last 10 games and had 29 in the win over Stanford and 27 in the victory over Texas. She will be the key to the Wolfpack’s chances against South Carolina.

This is the seventh straight tournament appearance for coach Wes Moore’s Wolfpack, so even though the lights will be brighter Friday night, don’t expect them to be intimidated by South Carolina.

James should expect strong support from Saniya Rivers, who is averaging 14 points and 5.9 rebounds in her last 10 games. River Baldwin (11.5 points, 7.6 rebounds last 10 games) will be tasked with tamping down South Carolina’s strong inside presence, especially Kamilla Cardoso.

Where South Carolina has the edge is the bench, with coach Dawn Staley’s reserves averaging around 34 points a game. MiLaysia Fulwiley, who is leading the Gamecocks in scoring over the last 10 games at 14.1 points per match, doesn’t even start. And Te-Hina Paopo is shooting 46% from three-point range.

USC is just 15-17 against the spread this season, and NC State is 20-17. Look for the Wolfpack to surprise South Carolina early before the Gamecocks’ depth allows them to pull away late, with NC State covering the spread.

Over 139.5

Both teams are playing to the over mark just over 50 percent of the time, and South Carolina is the one more likely to slog it down a bit, but expect this game to open up, especially in the second half as the Wolfpack up the pace to keep up with the Gamecocks.

NC State has totaled more than 139.5 points in each of their last three tournament games.

South Carolina only went over this total in the 79-75 region semifinal win over Indiana, but expect them to do so again Friday night.
