Iowa Women vs. South Carolina Women: Picks, Predictions, Odds and Player Props

It’s the matchup seemingly everyone wanted. The superstar who has drawn a historical national spotlight on women’s college basketball the past two seasons against the juggernaut looking to establish itself as the next women’s college basketball dynasty.

The Iowa Hawkeyes (34-4) defeated UCONN, 71-69, Friday night, and will now face South Carolina (37-0), 78-59 winners over NC State, Sunday afternoon at 3 pm ET at Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse for the 2024 women’s college basketball championship.

Clark had 21 points, nine rebounds and seven assists while Hannah Stuelke added a game-high 23 points as the Hawkeyes overcame a six-point halftime deficit against the Huskies to advance to their second straight final. Iowa has won 11 straight.

Meanwhile, Kamilla Cardoso had a double-double with game-highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds to lead three Gamecocks in scoring figures as they outscored NC State by 18 in the second half to pull away.

South Carolina, making its fourth straight last four appearance, is looking for its third national title since 2017. The Gamecocks have won 79 of their last 80 games, including the 2022 championship.

Their only loss during that stretch - last year’s national semifinal against Clark and the Hawkeyes.

Iowa vs. South Carolina betting picks and predictions

Iowa +6.5 (-110)

This has the chance to be a classic, and should surpass Iowa’s final eight victory over LSU for the most watched women’s college basketball game of all time. The draw of Clark’s last college basketball game and the unbeaten Gamecocks hungry for redemption is a tantalizing one.

Clark is averaging 30 points, 9.4 assists and 7.6 rebounds in this tournament. Her teammates have been with her the entire way, complementing and even taking control in various moments. But this final will be all about her.

Will the Gamecocks be able to limit her, the way Connecticut did, or will she go for 40 like she did against LSU?

Meanwhile, do the Hawkeyes have an answer inside for Cardoso, who is averaging 17 points and 9.3 boards in the tournament? And will they be able to handle Ashlyn Watkins on the glass? Watkins had 14 rebounds in South Carolina’s region final win over Oregon State before hauling in 20 rebounds against NC State in the national semi-final.

Iowa is 20-16 against the spread, while USC is 16-17. Our experts expect this to come down to the wire, and at the very least, for Iowa to cover that 6.5-point spread.

Total Points - Under 159.5 (-110)

Quite simply, this is going to be a battle, and both the Hawkeyes and the Gamecocks played to the under in their semifinal victories.

Even though Iowa (91.9 ppg) has the top-scoring offense in women’s basketball, and USC has the third best (85.6 ppg), the setting and the stakes, as well as the Gamecocks’ Top-20 scoring defense, will drive the final total below that 160 number.
