UConn Women vs. Iowa Women: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The latest betting picks, predictions and odds for the women's college basketball tournament national semifinal between No. 1 Iowa and No. 3 UConn.

In the quarterfinals, Iowa beat LSU 94-87 in a rematch of last season's National Championship game. Caitlin Clark was spectacular again, scoring 41 points as the Hawkeyes (33-4) earned their second straight trip to the last four with the victory.

Clark had 70 points and 27 assists in Iowa’s last two regional games, and she and her teammates will be looking for some more revenge against the Huskies (33-5), who defeated them in the round of 16 in 2021.

The two teams match up in the semifinal nightcap on Friday night at 9 PM ET, at Cleveland’s Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse.

It’s easy to forget the Huskies amidst Clark’s superstardom, the rivalry with LSU and the recent dominance of South Carolina, which is trying to win its third national championship since 2017.

UConn hasn’t won it all since 2016. This eight-year title drought is the longest for coach Geno Auriemma since the Huskies won the first of their 11 national titles in 1995.

However, UConn has made the semifinals 15 of the last 16 times. They will not get lost in the moment and it will take another standout performance by Clark to send Iowa back to the national championship game.

Read below to see our experts’ picks and predictions for this game.

UConn vs. Iowa betting picks and predictions

Iowa -2.5

Both teams have been on fire in the past several weeks. UConn has won 13 straight and 16 of 17 overall, including the Big East conference tournament championship.

Iowa has won 10 straight, including the Big 10 tournament. This game will be billed as Clark vs. UConn’s Paige Bueckers. Both players have won the National Player of the Year Award, and both are currently unstoppable.

Clark is averaging nearly 31 points and over 10 assists across the past 10 games, while Bueckers is averaging nearly 28 points a contest in the seven games since the postseason tournaments began. This game may come down to the supporting casts.

That’s where Iowa has the edge. Kate Martin, Sydney Affolter, Hannah Stuelke, and Gabbie Marshall are averaging a combined 44.8 points over the last 10 games. Meanwhile, Aaliyah Edwards, Nika Muhl, KK Arnold and Ashlynn Shade have combined a total 38.4 points during the same span. Not a major difference, but quite possibly just enough in what is expected to be a tight game.

Both teams like to run. Iowa owns the top-scoring offense in the nation at nearly 92 points a game, with UConn averaging 80 points per match. The Hawkeyes’ 3-point prowess (every player in the regular rotation is shooting 36% or better) will be tough for the Huskies to temper.

Iowa is 20-15 against the spread, while UConn is 21-14 ATS this season. However, the Huskies are 0-2 ATS in games where they are a 2.5-point dog or worse. Our experts expect an exciting and tight game throughout, but look for Clark and Iowa to get the win late.

Over 163

To give you an idea of the different styles at play, this national semifinal has a point total 23.5 higher than the NC State vs. South Carolina matchup. With Clark and Bueckers at the controls, expect both teams to score early and often.

Iowa has played to the over mark 24 of 35 times this season, and the Huskies have done the same 22 of 25 times.
