The Seattle Storm and Indiana Fever will clash for the fourth and final time this season on Sunday, August 18, at 2:30 PM ET on ABC.
Seattle has dominated the series this season, winning all three prior meetings, but the Fever, fresh off a convincing win over the Phoenix Mercury, are aiming to turn their campaign around and avoid a sweep.
During the Fever’s much-needed victory over the Mercury, Caitlin Clark scored 29 points, just one shy of her career high, while Kelsey Mitchell added 28 points and Aliyah Boston contributed 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Storm, currently 17-9, are coming off a disappointing 83-81 loss to the Atlanta Dream, where Skylar Diggins-Smith led the way with 29 points.
Seattle have consistently had the Indiana Fever’s number this season, winning all three matchups by comfortable margins. The Storm narrowly won the first game 85-83, but since then they’ve recorded comfortable 103-88 and 89-77 victories.
Jewell Loyd has been the standout player in these encounters, delivering performances of 32 points, 11 rebounds and six assists, followed by 22 points and six assists and, most recently, 34 points and five assists.
She’s outperformed her season averages of 20.1 points and four assists per game, making her a constant thorn in the Fever’s side.
Skylar Diggins-Smith has also excelled against Indiana, particularly as a playmaker, dishing out 18 assists with just one turnover in the last two games against the Fever.
Seattle’s combination of star power and efficiency, alongside a 1.7 rebound per game advantage and a 3.7 steal per game edge over Indiana, should be enough to cover the -3.5 spread.
Both Seattle and Indiana are capable of lighting up the scoreboard. The Storm average just over 84 points per game, while the Fever post 82.4 points per contest.
However, the key factor here is the Fever’s defense, which surrenders 87.3 points per game, one of the worst marks in the league. By contrast, the Storm allow just 77.8 points per game, giving them a clear defensive edge.
Given that both teams have hit the over in their last few meetings, betting on the over again makes sense. Indiana’s recent 98-point outburst against Phoenix is a clear indication that their offense is clicking, with Caitlin Clark, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston leading the charge.
If the Fever’s trio continues this level of play, they should have no problem pushing this game over 168.5 points, especially if they force a higher-scoring battle where Loyd and Diggins-Smith shine.
Caitlin Clark and Jewel Lloyd have been outstanding in their previous matchups against each other this season and the duo should be considered in the player points market.
Clark, a star rookie, has shown poise and scoring ability beyond her years, posting 21 points and seven assists, 20 points and nine assists, and 15 points and seven assists in her three games against Seattle.
Though she’s shooting just 38 percent from the field in these matchups, her ability to stuff the stat sheet and score in bunches makes her point over a solid bet, especially given her recent 29-point outing.
Lloyd, on the other hand, has been unstoppable against Indiana. Her consistent dominance, highlighted by scoring performances of 32, 22 and 34 points, suggests she’s a safe bet to exceed her season average once again.
With the Fever struggling defensively, Lloyd is likely to continue her superb scoring pace.
