Minnesota Lynx vs. Seattle Storm: Picks, Predictions and Odds

The Minnesota Lynx are threatening their own league record as, after a 9-0 start, they are tied with the defending WNBA champion New York Liberty for the fourth-longest undefeated start to a season in league history.

Minnesota looks to continue this historic run when it travels to Seattle to take on the Storm this evening at 10 PM ET.

The Lynx own the WNBA record for best start ever, starting 13-0 in 2016. That record is very much in danger of being broken, and Napheesa Collier is the biggest reason why.

She leads the league in scoring (25.5 ppg) and steals (2.3 spg) and is tied for fifth in rebounds at 8.9 per game. The four-time All-Star and reigning Defensive Player of the Year has finished in the top five in MVP voting each of the last two seasons, including a runner-up finish to Las Vegas’ A'ja Wilson last year. Collier is doing everything she can to move up one more spot in the voting this season.

She had 28 points, 10 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks as the Lynx continued their undefeated start with an 81-65 victory over the hapless Dallas Wings Sunday. Kayla McBride, who leads the WNBA with 3.4 3-pointers made per game, had 21 points, while Courtney Williams, who is tied for third with Seattle's Skylar Diggins with 6.4 assists per game, had eight dimes in the win over the Wings.

Minnesota is taking on a Seattle squad it has already beaten once this season, 82-77 at home last month. The Storm are 5-4 overall and have won two straight, including an 89-77 victory at the Phoenix Mercury on Saturday.

Diggins, who leads the team with 17.8 points per game, had 26 and seven assists against Phoenix, followed by Gabby Williams with 21 points and seven assists plus a career-high five three-pointers in the game.

Minnesota Lynx vs. Seattle Storm betting picks and predictions

Seattle Storm +4.5 (-110)

Not to take anything away from the Lynx, but their 9-0 start includes only three wins over teams that currently have winning records. Two of those came against the 6-4 Mercury, with the other against the Storm.

Minnesota has been feasting on the bottom half of the standings and doing what it is expected to do.

Meanwhile, Seattle’s four losses have come against Phoenix, Minnesota, Atlanta, and Las Vegas — all top six teams.

Aside from an opening-night blowout loss to the Mercury, they have played the other three teams tight, including in that five-point defeat to the Lynx in Minnesota. Gabby Williams had 20 points and six assists in that contest, while Diggins added 18 and Ogwumike contributed 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Storm are one team that can match up pretty well with the Lynx throughout the lineup. More importantly, they are one of the few teams that have been able to slow down Collier this season.

She has led Minnesota in scoring in seven of the eight games she has played. The one time she didn’t was against Seattle, where she was held to a season-low 16 points.

With the teams' previous matchup in mind, back the Storm to keep it close and cover the +4.5-point spread.

Over 154.5 total points (-110)

Both teams have totalled more than 154.5 points in five of their nine contests this season. Seattle has topped that number five times in the past six games and played to the Over four times in its last six contests.

Although Minnesota has played to the Under in five of its last six games, that has mostly come against inferior competition.

With both teams north of 80 points per game and with Seattle allowing over 80 points per contest, this matchup looks very much like a repeat of last month’s 82-77 result.

Napheesa Collier Over 21.5 points (-115)

Just as we noted Collier’s 16-point performance against the Storm last month, she has no doubt kept that disappointing performance in mind.

It is one of just two times this season that she has tallied less than 23 points in a game, both of which have come within her last four games.

Collier averaged nearly 23 points in three matchups with the Storm last season, and we expect her to at least hit that number here.
