The Las Vegas Aces and Chicago Sky have each lost three of their first four contests following the prolonged All-Star and Olympics break. The two teams, who split their first two games of the season, meet in Chicago on Sunday.
Las Vegas knocked off the Sky in Chicago in June, 95-83, behind 31 points from A’ja Wilson, 22 from Jackie Young, and 21 from Kelsey Plum.
Chicago returned the favor last month in Las Vegas, defeating the Aces, 93-85, behind a season-high 34 points from Chennedy Carter.
Las Vegas has lost to the New York Liberty and twice to the Minnesota Lynx in the past week, while Chicago has dropped two games to the Phoenix Mercury and lost to the Connecticut Sun, 82-80, on Friday night. Both clubs have defeated the Los Angeles Sparks during that time.
The against the spread statistics are not pretty for either team coming into this contest. Las Vegas is 4-8 ATS on the road and 10-18 overall, despite a 17-11 record.
Chicago is 12-16 against the spread and just 11-17 straight up this season, including 4-9 at home. Las Vegas is 0-5 ATS in its last five games overall, and 1-4 ATS on the road.
Look for Las Vegas to win this game, but for Chicago to cover the spread.
The teams combined for exactly 178 points in each of their two contests this season, and expectations are for this game’s final to hover around the same score.
Las Vegas owns the league’s best offense, scoring nearly 88 points a game. However, the Aces also allow more than 83 a game. Chicago is not much better, surrendering nearly 82 points a contest.
Look for a close, high scoring affair that easily tops the 166.5 point spread.
Wilson still leads the league in scoring at 26.8 points per game, but she has been held to just over 24 points a contest in Las Vegas’ first four games post break. That includes just 15 in the Aces’ first of two straight losses to the Lynx, on Wednesday, her second lowest output the entire season.
However, she is averaging nearly 30 points in two games against Chicago this season.
Look for the Aces’ Big Three of Wilson, Jackie Young, and Kelsey Plum to all have big games, with Wilson leading the way, scoring more than 25.5 points.
Reese is averaging more than 14 points a game since the league started back up. With second leading scorer Marina Mabrey traded to Connecticut during the break, Reese and fellow rookie Kamilla Cardoso are being asked to step up even more.
Reese leads the league with 12.6 rebounds a game, and that includes back-to-back games with 20 boards against Phoenix and Connecticut. She is averaging more than 16 rebounds a game so far in the second half of the season.
Reese is averaging 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds against Las Vegas this season. Look for her to improve on both of those numbers tomorrow night.
