Two of the WNBA’s in-form teams, the Indiana Fever and Dallas Wings, meet up tomorrow night at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. Both teams have won three games in a row.
Indiana stands at 16-16 and in seventh place in the WNBA standings, and is on the verge of its first play-off berth in nearly a decade.
The Fever recently defeated the Connecticut Sun and pummeled the Chicago Sky last night. Caitlin Clark had a career-high 31 points and 12 assists in the 100-81 victory over the Sky, while Kelsey Mitchell scored 23 points, tallying more than 20 for the sixth straight game, a franchise record.
Dallas, although 9-22 overall, has had an impressive stretch, knocking off the two-time defending champion Las Vegas Aces and ending the Minnesota Lynx’s seven-game win streak in an impressive 94-79 win last night. Dallas has won three games in a row for the first time all season.
The two teams have met just once so far this season, a 101-93 Wings victory at home in July.
Read below to see our experts’ picks and predictions for this game.
Although the Fever have been awfully impressive of late, having taken five of six since the start of the second half of the season, Dallas looks reborn now that its roster is back.
The biggest piece returning is Satou Sabally, who missed the entire first half of the season after shoulder surgery. She averaged 18.8 points for Germany in the Olympics and has continued that run into her first six games with Dallas, averaging 20 points per contest so far.
Indiana may very well find a way to win, but look for this to be a close one, with the Wings covering the 3.5-point spread as underdogs at home, where they’ve won three straight and four of their last five, including that victory over Indiana.
This is a high total to play to the over, but the teams did it once already, and the two defenses seem primed to allow that much.
Indiana is allowing 86.3 points per game, third worst in the WNBA. But Dallas has the Fever beat, surrendering 90.4 points per game, the worst in the league.
After scoring a career-high 31 against Chicago last night, Clark is looking for a repeat performance against Dallas. She had 24 points and a WNBA-record 19 assists the last time the teams met. In a magical rookie season that just keeps getting better, look for Clark to score more than 20.5 points against the Wings.
While Clark continues to receive the accolades and dominate the headlines, Mitchell just keeps performing night-in and night-out.
She leads Indiana in scoring at just a smidge over Clark at 18.5 points a game. But she has taken her game to another level since the start of the second half of the season. Mitchell is averaging 25 points a game through six contests, scoring no less than 21 points in any of those six matchups.
Look for her to stay hot and score more than 19.5 points against Dallas.
Ogunbowale is tied for second in the league at 22.3 points a game. The return of Sabally and Maddy Siegrist have certainly propelled Dallas forward, but Ogunbowale is still the Wings’ constant.
She is averaging 22 points per game in Dallas’ 3-3 stretch since the restart, and she should hover around that total against Indiana. Look for her to stay just under that total thanks more to the newfound depth on her team than anything else.
